“Nice Hotel - lovely building- nice grounds”
Reviewed 29 November 2013 via mobile

Lovely building.
Me and my husband always stay in De Ver hotel.
Breakfast buffet was nice
Nice staff
However there isn't clear signs to indicate the where the leisure facilities are.
Also there isn't clear sign posts around the hotel so you know where the bar is or the restaurant are.
The double rooms are very small and we was taken by surprise when we walked into our hotel room.
The outside ground are lovely and also the hotel provides a walking map which wasn't sign posted properly around the grounds so we ended up returning to the hotel as we didn't want to get lost.
We are returning back to the hotel in December with friends as we found a bargain for £45 a night including breakfast per room.

Stayed October 2013, travelled as a couple

I booked into this DeVere hotel as I found that the adjoining Crowne Plaza was a little overpriced. The main building is gorgeous...It could be a National Trust stately home. I had a room in the Archer wing, which had been very recently refurbished. The room was quite compact, but the style and comfort was good. The pricing at this hotel is pretty sensible too.

we stayed at the hotel for my birthday weekend on the 16th Nov - i too was concerned by the previous reviews, we booked through late rooms a junior suite - £79 - to be honest the room was a good double but certainly not a junior suite, we had a double bed and a sofa bed for my 2 children, but for £79 i was still happy and not surprised! - the room in the Archer wing was recently refurbished and very nice, the grounds are lovely, the pool was excellent and the kids had a great time, we only ate breakfast in the hotel which was more than adequate, reasonable quality, pleasant and efficient service and again value for money as it was included in the price. we found the hotel extremely easy and found the signs adequate?? i am not sure of others having issues, the staff where very friendly and polite, i would certainly recommend it and return again based on my experience and the refurbished wing we stayed in

Room Tip: ask for the archer wing

Last-minute booked this hotel for a family birthday weekend, before reading the Tripadvisor reports. To say I was apprehensive when I arrived would be an understatement. However, I needn't have worried as the hotel met and exceeded my expectations in equal measure. It's worth noting that this hotel has two parts, the De Vere side and the Crowne Plaza side. You can get from one to the other within the hotel, and there is no clear demarcation between them and facilities appear to be shared throughout. However, there are two separate reception desks, at opposite ends of the hotel.

I'll be brief. No flies, certainly in the Archer wing, where we had our rooms. Rooms appeared recently refurbished, with walk-in 'wetroom' showers (no bath) and decent beds and furniture. rooms were on the small size due to the historical layout of the building, but not an issue for us; if you need more space there are 'junior suites' available for not much more outlay; I didn't get chance to compare however. Our room was quite warm throughout our stay, and there was no obvious heating control, and the windows do not open. Not a problem for a cold weekend in November, but may be an issue in August. The building and grounds are stunning, and a lovely location for a wander around. The leisure centre has a great pool and friendly staff, and our experience of the staff within the hotel was excellent, with the restaurant manager going out of his way to arrange the tables to seat all of us together.

So - Pros - Great location, stunning building, great buffet breakfast, very reasonably priced, proper hotel staff service.

Cons - small car park (although there is plenty of parking which isn't directly outside the hotel), smallish rooms, warm bedrooms.

Finally, some irresponsible charlie decided to smoke a cigarette in his room at 6:35am on Sunday morning, and consequently woke the entire hotel when the fire alarms went off. Thanks very much for making my 6-year old think that he was going to be burned alive, which has meant sleepless nights for him since. And, therefore, me. You, sir, are an idiot.

Thank you for you for posting your experience on Trip Advisor. There is nothing more motivating than reading positive comments from guests who come and try our hospitality. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us and that everything provided complimented your stay. We are very fortunate to have owners who continue to invest in improving the hotel. The challenge we have is prioritizing where to spend this money as with such a vast building and grounds, the money never seems to go as far as you want it to!! But improvements are on the agenda for parts of the old house. De-vere venues are a well established UK leader in offering dedicated business locations. At De Vere Venues we are all about delivering the best training, meeting and conference rooms for you to do business. And, of course bedrooms to relax in at the end of the day or over the weekend. As the UK leader, we aim to provide the ideal location, here at Heythrop Park for business and leisure, in the most beautiful surroundings. We don’t believe in dull or ordinary. You’ll find no branded slippers here, no ‘déjà vu’. Each of our unique hotels, from the Majestic highlands to Brighton beach is chosen for its distinctive British character, individual style and quirky charm. Discerning service, wonderful food, delightful settings, and of course superb leisure facilities. Our teams are trained and work very hard to ensure that every guest enjoys every aspect of their stay. It really does matters to us that our every guest receives the very best service. I am glad that we meet your expectations. . I will forward your comment about the window to the maintenance team. On behalf of the whole team a huge thank you. Regards N Ibrahim General Manager

Just returned from a one stay from this De Vere hotel. Very impressive as you pull in the front gates, parking a bit difficult but that was down more to the patrons not the hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly at reception, given a small room in the annexe, but not far from main house which we could still see from the window. Room was a small double with ensuite shower room which had recently been refurbished to a nice standard. Flat screen tv and coffee/tea making facilities was nice.
Had to turn the radiator off as room was very hot, and slept with sah window wide open despite it being mid November. I saw slept as thsi is where we were slighlty disappointed. The pipes in our room hissed all night, and there must have been some sort of extraction fan on the roof as we could hear it chugging away all night but to be fair I am a very light sleeper.
Had very rude awakening at 6.30am with the smoke alarm going off. It fell silent just before we left the room, only to go off again as we got back in to bed, and on looking out the window staff running about didnt really know what was going on.. Alarm went silent again, but of course was wide awake.
Shower is fantastic, like a rain fall shower, well it was until the steam blew the lights and the fan and so the rest of my shower was in the dark. Didnt call reception as it didnt seem worth it as we were leaving anyway.
Mentioned it on leaving, staff were apologetic, but no offer of compensation.
As we only booked this rrom last minute and so got a good deal didnt push it.
The hotel is very clean and our room was spotless, I would stay here again, but would proabbaly ask not to have this particular room again.

Room Tip: Dont have room 402 !!!!

Myself and my partner stayed one night in this hotel yesterday (16 November) and will never return again.

We paid for what we believed would be a "standard double room" but turned out to be claustrophobic with views over a cement car park in the new Archer Wing. We got about 5 hours sleep between us due to the small, cramped space and hard bed, which staff told us the next morning was "only a week old" yet incredibly uncomfortable. To top it all off a fire-alarm went off twice between 6:30am and 7:00am on a Sunday morning!

There was not space to sit except a tiny desk jammed next to a wardrobe, and the bathroom was small enough to use the toilet, shower and brush your teeth over the sink at the same time. The owners of this hotel haven't invested in the modern Archer Wing extension for people, but for profit. The rooms are tiny, the atmosphere cramped and none of it contains the elegance or splendor of the main original building, which is a real shame.

I only gave this two stars for the breakfast, the only decent thing at the place.

Just back from a 4 night stay at the above. Hotel and grounds stunning. All the staff were brilliant and were so friendly and helpful. Meals in both the Terrace and Brassey Restaurants were excellent with very attentive service in both. Will certainly be returning early next year. Rooms in the Main House were fantastic!
