If you want a hotel stay with a classic feel, then this is the place. Situated in the heart of the cotswolds and so near to all the major tourist places of interest. A car is required because it is approximately one mile from the hotel gates to the actual hotel. You can be forgiven if you think you have arrived at the wrong destination as the grand frontage of the hotel leads you to think you have just arrived at brideshead revisited. If possible try and reserve a room in the main building as this is where you will experience all the splendour of this magnificent building. Other rooms are available but they are situated in a built on annex building and rooms are like a travelodge style, but still comfortable. If you look for the deals, your first nights evening meal is free and accompanied by a bottle of wine. Nice grounds to have a leisurely walk. Friendly staff and on top of this you have the beauty of the cotswolds on your doorstep.
We enjoyed out stay and I would recommend trying it at least once but look out for the special deals.

We stayed at Heythrop for two nights and were beyond disappointed. First impressions were impressive! A stunning building, beautiful grounds the bar was fine and the adjoining 'blue room' absolutely beautiful but that's where the good impressions end. Our experience at reception was a shambles throughout our stay.
Our first 'luxury' room smelt horribly musty and was unacceptable. We were moved to the Cedar Room where the smell wasn't so bad, the pot pourri helped, the bed was huge and really comfy but the room was shabby needing repairs and the tiny telly in the massive unit commical. The bathroom had obviously recently been done but the door stuck and needed painting and it was poorly designed meaning washbags etc had to be put on the floor. The poor design continued in the wardrobe where it was hard to hang clothes up as the ironing board was in the way.

At no point did anyone apologise to us or enquire if our new room was better. According to the note in our room the hotel manager meets with his team every morning, I would suggest he instead spends some time visiting the rooms and asking the guests for feedback.

On our second day we asked reception to book us a taxi to very busy local festival, they looked sceptical tried one firm and a second at our insistence and then gave up leaving us to turn to the internet to find a taxi ourselves, which we did. The barman didn't fair much better at the end of the day serving us cold hot chocolate in cups with saucers that didn't fit. There is also no turn down service which I would expect given what we were paying

To add insult to injury throughout our stay we weren't allowed to park outside the hotel as it was reserved for BMW who were clearly more important than the rest of us, so had to park our car on the grass verge near the golf course.

Our room was £ 170 a night and I really feel that we were significantly overcharged. Don't believe the 'luxury' tag, it is quite simply untrue. It could be an incredible hotel, but it isn't. Try next door instead!

I stayed here for 2 back to back conferenes from 24th - 27th June. I did not stay in my room very much but it was nice, if not on the small side. However the food and staff could not do enough help. The booking was quite complicated as it was 3 separate bookings but they handled that very well.

A stunning hotel in a beautiful location. Our room was well priced and very comfortable. We did book a double but ended up with a twin, though this was not a huge issue. The bar is very welcoming and all the staff were friendly. We even got to see a wonderful firework display in the night we stayed. Highly recommended!!

The actual house is beautiful and the huge peaceful grounds are beautiful. You can venture into the corporate style hotel next door if something more modern is your, thing but we loved the old English style and peace of Heythorpe.

As it was a base post Cornbury festival it was perfect. £65 room only is not to be sneezed at! The room looked a bit grotty on first view, but was clean. 2 spiders live behind the radiator is room 338 but this is expected in the countryside and they were quiet!!

Shower worked, towels excellent quality, as was the bed linen. Extra pillows (feather) were requested and delivered. Can't complain! Hubby said his bed a little soft but I slept very well.

Tea tray would benefit from serving more than one hot drink each person - but the room service person was happy to provide more supplies in the morning.

Only gripe was that the fire door very close to the room was squeaking loudly and I can't understand why that isn't immediately addressed as a maintenance issue, rather than regarded part of the expected refurbishment of that part of the house at some stage in future. The corridor outside the room is creaky (expected in an old house and excusable at such a cheap price) but the 2 sounds together are annoying. One is easy to resolve.

Bedroom decor is 'Next Directory' / new homes style and not in keeping with the main house. Chrome / reflective swirly silver wallpaper and navy carpets are not good designs for rooms in what is a Stately home. Hopefully they find a decent room designer as the rooms in that part are more conference centre, than we expected.

Constructive criticism: The nice young woman on reception would benefit from training in responding more professionally to concerns / complaints. Normally we are asked how our stay was at check out, but our departure was regarded a payment transaction process only and my comments relating to the door squeak were pretty much dismissed, as it intefered with the process.

One line was given alerting me to a future refurbishment, but said in a robotic way. Aside from that, she was nice and friendly.

It's worth considering the room as a base to explore from, as the surroundings are very special and ultimately you are staying in a stunning building of historic relevance for a very cheap price. Just lower expectations if you get a 'Next' style room!

Tea tray would have benefitted

Dear Gwagtastic

Thank you for taking the time to write your review on trip advisor following your recent visit to Heythrop Park.

I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay and found the facilities and rooms to be comfortable. We have 161 bedrooms within the Main House side of the hotel including the rooms in the two wings. The bedrooms in the actual Mansion House are decorated in a very traditional style with roll top baths - certainly worth an upgrade if you were to stay with us again as they have amazing views over the front and rear of the grounds. The rooms in the Archer wing were refurbished late last year and are fully accommodated with all modern facilities. The rooms in the Shrewsbury wing have not yet been refurbished but are very good value for money and are all ensuite and equipped with usual extras.

Your comments regarding the 'squeaky door' has been passed on to the Maintenance team and has since been addressed.

I am most sorry if you found any of the receptionists to be a little non-respondant to your concerns, several members of the team are new to the position and are still in their training period, your feedback therefore is of great value to the improvements in our guest service.

I do hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to Heythrop Park in the near future.

Kind regards

I attend this venue yesterday (2.7.14)
Work had booked one of the rooms for our meeting and lunch was provided during the day event.

The building is full of character, charm and is impressive. You find yourself looking at the ceiling patterns and patterns in the stone work.

The part the meetings held in is modern contemporary still.

Tea coffee section, help yourself machines make lattes and so forth, different syrups to add to you coffee.
Choice of breakfast pastries, porridge, flapjacks, biscuits and sweets along with various other items.

Food at lunch time is buffet style not much choice, a few different mains and salad bar, a desert section along with fresh fruit. Nice food nothing to complain about.

Only bad point staff didnt explain very well where to get to certain parts of the building, perhaps would be best if were given some kind of floor plan.

Overall lovely place and id be tempted to return for a weekend spa break, which I noticed they do.

They also have large golf range.

Note mobile signal is not very good at all, however im sure people can survive with intermittent service.

Went back to this hotel to see my daughter who lives and works nearby. Since our last visit a wing of the hotel has been refurbished, and although the rooms are fairly small they are ideal for one ot two day break. The bed was very comfortable and the shower room had been converted to a wet room with an excellent shower. The only thing that let the hotel down this visit was the breakfast. We came down about 8.30 so there was still and hour and a half to spare, but they had run out of bacon. After dishing up some of the hot buffet breakfast, when we got to the eggs there were none left, and we had to wait a considerable time before 4 eggs were brought out to us. The juice was room temperature, and the tea was warm and insipid. All in all a big let down and when we left the breakfast room, the duty manager had vanished so we could not complain. This is our 4th visit to this hotel, and the breakfast is usually a strong point. We will return in view of it's proximity (less than a mile) to our daughter's place of work and residence

Your feedback regarding the breakfast has been passed on to the Head Chef and Food & Beverage Manager and we sincerely apologise for any disappointment. I would like to assure you that the service you received is certainly not typical of the excellent hospitality we usually offer.

I look forward to welcoming you back to Heythrop Park for your 5th visit in the near future.
