The hotel is a wonderful location but I am afraid the rest of this review will not be so wonderful. I understand that the hotel is full of guests who are attending the game fair, another BMW event and tourists but if you know there are so many guests then employ more staff to cope with the demand.
We waited ages for our supper and when it arrived it was cold. The 'green' beans only arrived after we had finished our meal. Some things such as a jug of water never arrived at all.
The rooms are very warm; and the rather suspicious stain on divan will give me something to think about as I go to sleep.
Oh well. Just two more nights to go.
It's a shame as this hotel could be so amazing.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your review on Trip Advisor, we greatly value your feedback. The hotel has just finished its first phase of renovation in the Archer wing. Currently Shrewsbury wing has not yet been refurbished and both these wings are sold at different price points to ensure that our guests get good value.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused. We have noted the issues raised by you and corrective action has been initiated.

Kind Regards

The course description above may have been relevant in 2009 but the current course bears no resemblance to the description now. Played the course at the end of June with 16 members as a society package bacon bap on arrival, 27 holes of golf light lunch and evening meal. The course was in poor condition, greens left a lot to be desired, edge of the bunkers uncut, inconsistant sand, tee off area... read more bear. The shared club house with spa area had no means of dealing with 16 society members for light lunch or for an evening meal, we had to serve ourselves, request cutlery, condements and we're all sat seperately some even had to eat the food on thier laps As a well established society we've played over 70 courses within an hours drive of Swindon this is the worse society day out we've ever had, over rated, over priced, we'll noy be going backl .

So the pluses first:
Main building is beautiful with great seating areas.
Stunning grounds.
Nice bars (one in the adjoining Crowne Plaza).
Comfortable room although small and quite basic (in the Shrewsbury Wing).
Wonderful dinner and service (Natassia) in the Brassy Restaurant (again in Crowne Plaza).
Minuses
Check in - receptionist had no record of the dinner part of our booking and had to ask me for written proof (which I had).
No record of my dinner reservation which I had called in the day before.
Room - empty shower gel and shampoo dispenser - had to ask duty manager to replace (which he did). Plus bin with foot pedal not working. And no drawers.
Breakfast in Terrace restaurant - hardly any waiting staff so hard to get tea or coffee and loads of vacant tables not cleared away.
Bar staff in Brassy Bar slow and forgot our snacks order.
Receptionist asked me to pay for full stay on departure. Had to point out I had paid DBB charges and only extras to pay.
On balance - hmmm ... Worth staying if you can get a special. Our deal was £135 DBB which just about made it worthwhile. I wouldn't pay more. It's a function and conference venue with nice food but the accommodation side falls some way short.
PS on our visits to reception we noted several other guests with check in or room issues.

Wow, what an amazing event, Heythrop is a great venue, the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. The BMW guys were also good, great cars, good food a perfect day. One of the key successes of the day is that staff from BMW and Heythrop knew when to be available and when to leave alone, perfect balance of service and space, very important for me.

Thanks

If you want a hotel stay with a classic feel, then this is the place. Situated in the heart of the cotswolds and so near to all the major tourist places of interest. A car is required because it is approximately one mile from the hotel gates to the actual hotel. You can be forgiven if you think you have arrived at the wrong destination as the grand frontage of the hotel leads you to think you have just arrived at brideshead revisited. If possible try and reserve a room in the main building as this is where you will experience all the splendour of this magnificent building. Other rooms are available but they are situated in a built on annex building and rooms are like a travelodge style, but still comfortable. If you look for the deals, your first nights evening meal is free and accompanied by a bottle of wine. Nice grounds to have a leisurely walk. Friendly staff and on top of this you have the beauty of the cotswolds on your doorstep.
We enjoyed out stay and I would recommend trying it at least once but look out for the special deals.

We stayed at Heythrop for two nights and were beyond disappointed. First impressions were impressive! A stunning building, beautiful grounds the bar was fine and the adjoining 'blue room' absolutely beautiful but that's where the good impressions end. Our experience at reception was a shambles throughout our stay.
Our first 'luxury' room smelt horribly musty and was unacceptable. We were moved to the Cedar Room where the smell wasn't so bad, the pot pourri helped, the bed was huge and really comfy but the room was shabby needing repairs and the tiny telly in the massive unit commical. The bathroom had obviously recently been done but the door stuck and needed painting and it was poorly designed meaning washbags etc had to be put on the floor. The poor design continued in the wardrobe where it was hard to hang clothes up as the ironing board was in the way.

At no point did anyone apologise to us or enquire if our new room was better. According to the note in our room the hotel manager meets with his team every morning, I would suggest he instead spends some time visiting the rooms and asking the guests for feedback.

On our second day we asked reception to book us a taxi to very busy local festival, they looked sceptical tried one firm and a second at our insistence and then gave up leaving us to turn to the internet to find a taxi ourselves, which we did. The barman didn't fair much better at the end of the day serving us cold hot chocolate in cups with saucers that didn't fit. There is also no turn down service which I would expect given what we were paying

To add insult to injury throughout our stay we weren't allowed to park outside the hotel as it was reserved for BMW who were clearly more important than the rest of us, so had to park our car on the grass verge near the golf course.

Our room was £ 170 a night and I really feel that we were significantly overcharged. Don't believe the 'luxury' tag, it is quite simply untrue. It could be an incredible hotel, but it isn't. Try next door instead!

I stayed here for 2 back to back conferenes from 24th - 27th June. I did not stay in my room very much but it was nice, if not on the small side. However the food and staff could not do enough help. The booking was quite complicated as it was 3 separate bookings but they handled that very well.
