Called in for lunch after an unfortunate visit elsewhere. Great steak & ale pie and a well kept pint of "Hooky". Good service in a long established hotel in the town centre. Reputed to have the cheapest beer in town.

Sorry - but this has a perfect location in the centre of town, but its cheerful and well serviced bar is a front for an amateur attempt at being a hotel. £145 for A Saturday night and no central heating? Requests for extra bedding and pillows were met by a cushion and a coverlet ( duvet on second traipse to indifferent reception) - poor toiletries and a room who s window was at main road tyre level. Four poster was straight out of b & q complete with view of angle brackets. Room was cursory serviced.
Pool was spartan and breakfast the absolute minimum you could get away with.

All shouted - where is the manager!

What a pity as the beer was excellent.

Room Tip: Mid week much cheaper and priced that more befits the accommodation and absence of service

Rooms are small and dirty. Our so called 4 poster was dirty and pokey. The ensuite was the worst I have ever seen down narrow steps. So called lounge was no more than a storage area. DON'T STAY here if you are expecting a nice Cotswolds inn with any class at all.

This hotel is past it. The receptionist was like the hotel, cold. She didn't have an appreciation of customer service. We got to the room via the corridor which stank of stale cigarette smoke and entered a dark and dreary hotel room which was colder than the bottle of champagne I'd ordered swimming in a bucket of water with no ice which considering we arrived at the time I stated is not a good welcome. To e honest we didn't want to drink the champagne as the room was so dark and cold. Our bathroom had a delightful floral pattern and the bath had no enamel and signs of poor patching up. The floor within the bathroom was stained which was probably due to rotting from underneath due to the fact there is no shower curtain around the bath.
Breakfast, yes, we did stay the night in our grim room, was an equal match to the hotel room. Bland sausage, charred bacon, and a plastic fried egg. As for the pool and leisure facilities as we were so cold it really wasn't an option!!
Suggest the hotel is closed whilst a proper central heating system is installed and ALL the rooms are renovated and staff trained in customer care.

Room Tip: A different hotel

We stayed here recently with family (8 rooms in total) Rooms were OK but they could have been warmer. There was no shower curtain or screen so you could really only have a bath which wouldn't suit everyone. We had two single beds but the duvets only just came to the edge of the bed with no overhang so if you turned over at night you quickly became uncovered.

We ate in the restaurant which I though was overpriced. The strangest thing was that they said we couldn't charge the food to our rooms. There were 16 of us eating and they said they could only produce one bill and we could sort it out between ourselves. As some us had bottles of wine, some were drinking beer etc and some didn't drink at all, some of us were in couples, some were single, some had two courses, some only had one you can imagine sorting the bill out was a nightmare. I just cannot understand why we couldn't charge food and drink to our rooms as we were all residents.

The Sunday lunch was very good and good value for money and was in fact better than the evening meal the night before. The bar prices seemed to be very reasonable and the bar staff were friendly as were the reception staff.

It could be an excellent hotel but it misses the mark. Would I stay here again.... No.

I always check the reviews before going places, so I was a little worried about staying here. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised! I was staying here with my daughter, and parents. We stayed in a room at the back of the building, which took quite a while to get to through a lot of corridors. The room was spacious and clean, and had a good size antique bed! So pretty! It also had a sofa, and a huggeee bath! I was very pleased! We both had a good nights sleep, the temp was just right in the building.
Food: We have a bar meal downstairs which was not bad. The breakfast was a small selection of cereals, croissants and rolls, toast, dried fruit and yoghurt. You could also order a cooked breakfast if you liked (although I did not fancy this!). The staff were very attentive (bar the reception desk) and helpful. We didn't use any of the facilities other than the bar, so cannot comment on them.
The only tiny complaints was the walls were very thin, luckily we had good bedroom neighbours! Other than that a great trip, and hopefully will stay there again!

Room Tip: Room 28 is the best!

The Crown & Cushion hotel is a decent enough hotel, whether or not that is enough nowadays is debatable. Sure, its clean, tidy & friendly, but its also tired, dated & basic! If you are used to 4 or 5*** accommodation and facilities then this will be a disappointment for sure; we upgraded at extra cost which was quite alarming considering the quality of the room! Others were more vocal and complained about their upgrade until they were moved! If however you want a base from which to explore the Cotswolds and the refinements are not so important then this should be perfectly adequate. The food here is above average and certainly came as a pleasant surprise, even though it seemed a bit expensive; most evening meals were between £16-£19 per person. The breakfasts were exceptional and the staff always helpful and friendly, generally a warm and welcoming atmosphere, although some were more friendly and helpful than others!
Chipping Norton of course is a beautiful town, ideally located to explore the wider area and this hotel is on the high street, so very convenient to the local amenities; especially the farmer's market on Saturday mornings. We had a terrific weekend in the area, a visit which was not spoiled for staying at this hotel, but should we return then in all probability we'd try somewhere else next time.
