“Lovely place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2013 via mobile

We stayed for one night on a Monday. Easy to get bookings during the week apparently.
Lovely quant place, full of character. Plenty of good beer and some interesting choices of other drinks too.
Stayed in room 6, which is right in the loft. Plenty of space though and a good view out the back.
Bathroom was adequate in size and clean.
Breakfast was magnificent, wife had the full English and I had smoked salmon and egg, both were excellent.
Will definitely be going back.

This is a quaint pub/inn/hotel in the most charming village in the Cotswolds. It has lovely rooms, good food, good beers and wines and character to die for. Sunday night is folk night and the entertainment was good fun. Good value.

Room Tip: Ask for a 4 poster for romance or room 6 for space.

Stayed overnight while travelling for work, and found this a little gem. Our evening meal was good - contrary to other recent reviews, our choices were clearly home-made: a huge piece of game pie with mash and veg, and a 'smokey' - a little mash-topped fish pie and some seasonal veg. Rooms were comfortable and well-furnished; room 3 is small but compact, with everything needed, including flat screen TV and en-suite shower. The rooms' size and layout are obviously dictated by the needs of the fabulous historic buildings which make up the pub, so vary considerably, but regardless, are charming. The breakfast offered a buffet of fruit, cereals and juice, and the hot choices were of good quality and freshly cooked to order. A great location in the beautiful Cotswolds.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Falkland Arms as part of a week-long trip through London, the Cotswolds and South Wales - and it was so good, we extended our stay to two nights because we couldn't stand to leave! This traditional pub in the wonderful old village of Great Tew was a perfect base for the Northern Cotswolds and an experience in itself - especially for my girlfriend who has only spent a very short time in England before.

Beer was excellent, food good, and the pub's ambiance and welcome of the locals made the trip for us both. We also took a couple of good walks around the village and estate and visited the mediaeval village church - relaxing and beautiful in the golden evening sunshine! The village has a great history and a fascinating present; talk to the eclectic and friendly residents and find out more!

We stayed in room 5 right above the bar which, although we could clearly hear Sunday's regular folk music after we went to bed a little before closing time, was comfortable, peaceful and welcoming.

STRONGLY recommended for a great British experience.

We stayed at the Falkland Arms for 2 evenings and had DBB both nights. I have to agree with the previous review-the food isn't great although the menu does sound good. Despite the average food we did have a great stay. The staff are great, the bed linen good quality and the village breath takingly beautiful. Good real ale.
There was a folk night for our last evening which went on late into the night which was fine with us and confirmed that the good people of Tew regard this as their local boozer-bet they eat else where though!

Room Tip: Our friends were in the top room which takes up much of the length of the pub.

we booked a 2 night stay at this pub having stayed here 4 years ago. Accomodation is very good and breakfast also meets the need but sadly evening dinner has been reduced to plastic pub food - poor quality - and not that tasty. 4 years ago the food was great - they need to get a good chef and a good menu used fresh produce.
We like the location & pub but sadly will not go back as due to it's location there is a good drive to another pub / eatery and being able to have a good meal at this great pub really made it - how sad the eaither the brewery or owner have lowered the standard so must.

When we stayed the tempreture was frezing and there was plenty of snow - rooms were nice and warm but the log fire was very disapointing - badly attended by staff who took more time playing with the pub dog or having a smoke outside. The outside litter bins looked as if they have not been emptied for weeks.

This is a great pub with good accomodation and good beers etc - sadly heading downwards - needs a good kick start and far beeter attention to detail & serevice in the bar.

Room Tip: Higher rooms and those NOT above the bar are quieter, but there online data does state this.

Having booked for one night, we arrived after 6pm, but were met by friendly staff, and were shown immediately to our room.
The double room was very spacious, with modern divan and en suite shower room.
We enjoyed a pleasant meal in the restaurant and had an excellent night's sleep in the very comfortable bed.
After a full English breakfast we were sorry to leave, but will definitely come again.
A great stopping-off point outside Oxford on the way north!
Well worth the small detour!
