“Still at the top of their game”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Back in this really villagey pub last night for delicious plaice with samphire and potatoes and a beautifully balanced balsamic sauce, followed by a Baileys and chocolate cheesecake that DID taste of Baileys. Memorable! What's extra nice about the Plough is that it is typically a village pub. Yes, it has an excellent (and small restaurant) and a talented young chef, but you'll also get a feel of what else goes on in this charming little village. Music perhaps, mummers or the morris, a song at the piano, a quiz night. I've never known the hunt turn up outside, but being a country pub, I suppose it just might. This is what it's like out here, and it's part of the pleasure of it. We're lucky that The Plough contributes so much to life in this part of the Evenlode Valley. (And despite the TripAdvisor listing, it's NOT in Chipping Norton, it's in Finstock, which is couple of miles south of Charlbury off the Witney road.)

“Totally Amazing”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

I was staying on a break in the Finstock area and was told to try this pub for evening dinner. There were four of us who had dinner on the Friday night and l have to say it was amazing. The staff were very friendly and you felt comfortable once you arrived, ten out of ten also for the manager who seemed to be buzzing around everywhere and a very chatty person. We all had a taste of each others food and to be honest l would of liked to of eaten everything off the menu. One of the best pubs ive ever been too, will certainly be back x

“Very sad”
Reviewed 6 July 2014 via mobile

I use this pub lots over the last year and it had been turned around as I reported before but over the last month the pub has been sadly going down hill again :(
The food is slow at coming out, but taste when you finally get it 8/10 times. Loud, rude and disrespectful young people who have taken over the place most nights now. Management seem to put them first before booked people and regulars! Seems that our local pub is about now is how much money goes though the til!
Really shame as we thought we had our pub back. Only good thing about the pub at the moment is the staff the management have behind them which are doing there best by looking after the people that really matter. Let's hope things can turn around before we lose our local pub for good

“Too late for food”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

We stopped off here on a circular walk from Charlbury.
It was warm and welcoming inside and the board outside suggested food was available.
My husband had a local beer which he said was well kept and good, I had a soft drink. We were tempted by the blackboard displaying specials, but at ten past two were told they had stopped serving food, we opted for two packets of crisps and nuts which probably cost as much as a starter!
Another table was served food ten minutes after we had tried to order which was a bit like rubbing salt into our wounds, the food looked delicious and so we will try another time when in the area and earlier!
Shame the kitchen couldn't accommodate us as they were clearly still cooking and were actually quiet with eaters the Saturday lunch time we visited.
The pubs tucked away in the village but looks worth a little drive for locals.
Other places we have visited within five to ten minutes of end if order times usually accommodate us- shame this pub didn't.

“What an English pub should be”
Reviewed 6 June 2014 via mobile

Set in the village of Finstock this pub is approached from the East down single lane roads is worthwhile the journey. It is set in a beautiful part of the West Oxfordshire countryside.
The pub serves high quality food and an interesting range of beers. Very popular with the locals and visitors alike.
