Visited using a 3 night KGB deal. The pub is well situated in the middle of the village close to shops, other pubs, restaurants and supermarket, and has ample parking. We were greeted on arrival by a very helpful lady who was working behind the bar. She booked us in and showed us up to our first floor room which was very spacious, had a good sized comfortable bed and a size-able en suite bathroom, and has tea and coffee making facilities. The pub does not serve evening meals so we were advised that the Kings Head around the corner did and the meals are reasonably priced.A good tip as the other pubs and restaurants in the village are a bit pricey. English breakfast was a substantial plateful that set you up for the day. They liked you to say in advance the time you were likely to want breakfast as the lady who cooks it also takes your orders, clears the tables and serves it along with the drinks and toast. If you breakfast at the same time as others then there can be a bit of a delay. The pub itself serves Hook Norton cask ales and has the usual mix of pub characters. The barmaid who greeted us originally was very helpful in suggesting how best to get into Oxford and other places worth visiting. Thanks very much to her. On the whole we enjoyed our visit to the Fox as a bargain break but if you are picky you will see that a lick of paint on skirting boards and walls would not go amiss and maybe it might have been nice if a vacuum cleaner had been run over the bedroom carpets during our stay. Oh and finally the town clock is just outside the pub windows and chimes on the hour and every half hour all through the night and day. If you are a light sleeper it may disturb you but we found that a few pints before going to bed sorted that problem out.

We have just returned from a 3 night KGB deal stay at this hotel. We stayed in room number 4 at the front of the hotel. It was noisy at times outside but this didn't disturb our sleep or spoil our stay. Our room was lovely with plenty of storage space. The shower room was spacious and bright. Breakfast was cooked to order, I had a deliciously filling bacon butty! Special mention and thanks to the friendly kitchen staff. It's a shame the hotel doesn't do evening meals.
The hotel was in an ideal location, many places of beauty were within a short driving distance. I've given the ratings based on the fact it was a KGB deal and great value for money!

The location of this Pub with rooms is ideal, and has it's own car park.
The pub it self is a little tired although the landlord appears to be trying hard to improve matters.
The staff are friendly enough, the breakfast was good and the rooms are fine, except that they could do with a lick of paint.
It's value for money and worth staying if you are on a budget.

Room Tip: Room 3 is quiet although it has an en-suit shower and toilet, the sink is in the room and is in need...

Stayed one night, didn't eat in as out to a function.

Very spacious double room for £60 single price, comfortable with TV etc. This is a pub/hotel, so don't expect a 5 star reception, you go into the bar. Breakfast quite adequate for the money. Staff friendly.
Right in the town centre, but far enough away from the main road not to be bothered by noise - I had a room at the back.

Room Tip: Room at the back may mean less noise.

My wife and myself have just returned from a 3 night stay at this hotel and having read some of the reviews before arriving, I can only assume that we came to a different hotel or that we were very fortunate.
On arrival we met the owners who informed us that our room was not quite ready, so we sat down and had lunch there. The meal was freshly cooked, tasty and reasonably priced.
The hotel has six rooms and we were allocated room number 1. The room was a fair size, clean with double bed, a small en suite (but a lovely shower) flat screen t.v., tea/ coffee making facilities and ample storage. It also had a large window which made the room quite light, but also overlooked the main street, so at times could be noisy.
The breakfast each morning consisted of various cereals, juices and the full english, which was cooked to order and was nice and filling. The staff here also deserve a mention for the pleasant way breakfast was served as if nothing was too much trouble.
As I said having read other reports, if you were hyper critical you probably could find faults with this place, as you probably could in hotels costing considerably more than this one, but it is what it is, a nice hotel in a nice place.
Finally my wife and I would not hesitate in recommending this hotel and we would like to thank the owners, their staff and all the locals we spoke to for their hospitality and for making it a great weekend.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at The Fox (13th June till 15th) We read some of the reviews from the 2 pence millionaires who expected 5 star accommodation for a 1 star price, all i can say is give your heads a shake. Start to support these businesses that are offering these great deals without making any profit.

We were welcomed by "TAT" the bar lady who should us to our room and told us all about the town etc. Yes the pub does not do food on an evening but TAT directed us to the pub around the corner for a £5.50 special meal (8oz rump steak). The next two nights we spent in the bar with the locals and we were made very welcome by all the staff and John the landlord.

We would just like to thank all the staff for a great stay. Try to stay on a Thursday night and watch out for the Aunt Sally!!!.

Again thanks

David and Julie
