Description: We are a Classic English pub in the centre of Chipping Norton. We sell 6 real ales and locally sourced home-cooked food. We are well known for our fantastic pies and Sunday roasts. Next to the theatre, we are the perfect place to enjoy a bite and a drink before or after a show.

I took a friend from abroad, who wanted a typical English pub. It was a bitterley cold day, there was a roaring fire, flag stoned floor and scrubbed wooden tables and benches. Very friendly relaxed service, good menu, beer battered fish was fab (no mushy peas though), only grumble was they had run out of mussels, but judging by the look of those tucking in, its because they were so good. I would go back anytime.

we used to visit a lot more last year or so, but not the same service and attitude,
never sure how well a drinks Bar works with a restaurant.
tried hard but not quite good enough to come back.

We visited on a Monday so we took advantage of the fish and chip night, tenner fro fish chips and a drink, but most nights seems something going on.

We had an excellent dinner here - succulent scallops on cauliflower puree with curry flavoured oil followed by imaginative and generous portions of meals from the Specials board.
Very friendly staff .. and obviously real talent in the kitchen.

My wife and I spent a Wednesday evening in The Chequers, Chipping Norton, whilst on a short break. The pub has loads of Character and a great selection of 'real ales'. The food was ok albeit a little expensive for what it was and the ale was also on the pricey side, £3.90 a pint, but it was very good. The place was quite full, even for a Wenesday in October, so that must say something.

Thanks for visiting our pub. I'm glad you enjoyed our food and beer. We try to keep our prices at a reasonable level. It's difficult with the beer as I'm tied to a brewery and can't really shop around for lower cost ales. The free houses always have one up on me in that respect. Thanks again for your comments.
