“GREAT PUB... Shame bout the doondog lager”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014 via mobile

Been coming here for 20 years. Unfortunately this time the lager was flat and yeast at bottom of glass.
Garden was lovely so was the weather.
Food looked good.

“Love the garden”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 March 2014

This pub is in a super location, a few minutes drive from Henley, beautiful surrounding countryside with stunning views, it’s a great walk down to the river and back for a pint, about a half hour walk. The decor is a bit weird, lots of stuffed fish and animals. We usually sit in the big beer garden, red kites flying overhead, chickens and guinea fowl on the ground, very pleasant.
Beer is always ok but certainly not cheap, food is plain but you do get good portions. The burgers are the frozen, grey looking ones that taste of compressed cardboard and you should expect to pay through the nose for the experience.
Staff can be a bit intolerant and appear to be lacking a sense of enjoyment in their routine, don’t expect any banter or recommendations here. I am sure they work hard as it can get very busy with cyclists and walkers, though maybe showing a little bit of personality and small it would go a long way in encouraging customers to part with their own hard earned cash.

“Oh dear!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014

We have been to the Flower Pot several times in the past, but in the course of looking up the opening hours I had a look at the reviews on Trip Advisor. Normally I take critical reviews on web sites with a pinch of salt, but lived to regret it this time. My litmus test of a pub is their steak and ale pie: on that basis, this must be one of the worst pubs in the world. More gristle than meat, a horrible pale colour and no taste - only a nasty after-taste. My wife's fish pie was a little better, in that she could at least eat it, but it contained a few of the smallest shrips we had ever seen used as food, surely a sign of cheapness. It is a great shame that the pub takes advantage of its wonderful location by serving up this rubbish. The Brakspear's is well-kept though.

“Fantastic, one of the last remaining 'proper Pubs'!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 March 2014 via mobile

This pub is an absolute Gem! It is exactly what a proper pub should be, Fantastic location, full of character and charm, one of the best log fires I've ever seen! Great choice of food, our dogs and children were made extremely welcome, despite being wet and muddy! our dogs were given treats and the kids had food 'tailor made' to their fussy requirements and loved it! We battled through the floods in our wellie's and were delighted to see that the pub was still welcoming those of us who could get there! We will definitely be returning ..so pleased we found such a great place!

“The Flower Pot”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 February 2014

We like this pub a lot and you can buy fresh eggs at the bar from the owners. They keep a variety of unusual chickens and a turkey - Big Red, and its a very nice place to take children in the summer. It is a short distance from Hambledon Lock which is great walk. The food was nice but not special.
