“Nice Cake, Ok Service”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

I visited the Patisserie Valerie in Henley this morning, on a bright sunny day. I sat outside with my friend and my dog, as there is a pleasant seating area on the pavement, next to Starbucks. Sadly the staff were using a really nasty and dirty mobile clearing trolley, rather than a more suitable unit that could be moved, making it feel a bit too "canteen" for my liking.

The service was reasonable, without being swift and you were left wondering if it was all going to work out. Well it did, without any major mishaps and the food and drink arrived on time. The coffee , a double espresso, was made well but we had to ask for sugar. The cake, a chocolate mousse slice was not too sweet, but just too big. Cant complain about that really.

We also had a cranberry juice and a yoghurt and honey. It was all fine, but not remarkable. The price was just under £13. Perfectly acceptable but could be so much nicer if they improved the outside seating area with some (moveable) but better quality support stations.

“Arrogant rude waitress”
Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

Wanted to try out this place but on asking about seating outside the waitress was unbelievably rude, so I walked out.
Never will they ever get my service.
And the flies inside all over the food display in the window was disgusting.

“Delicious!”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Popped in here for a drink yesterday and it was so delicious, and the service so friendly, we decided to call in again today, but included a scrummy cake this time too! My partner and I both had iced Frappe's and a piece of gateau each today and all was thoroughly enjoyed. It was quite pricey but, so is everything in Henley so we just had to bite the bullet and were definitely glad we did!

“Good Cakes, shame about the Earl Grey”
Reviewed 17 July 2014 via mobile

Cakes are not bad for a chain with industrial production and centralised distribution. Not as good as shops who bake on the premises, but not bad.
The Earl Grey tea, however, is shocking. Had a pot in the Norwich branch recently and there was no "Earl Grey" character to the tea at all. Given it is leaf tea it should be streets ahead of tea bags but not so. I assumed I had got a duff pot in Norwich, maybe not enough turnover so the tea had deteriorated, sadly the Henley outpost tea tasted just the same. Will still continue to patronise them but will stick to coffee in future which they make a much better job of.

“All about looks - and so tasteless”
Reviewed 10 July 2014

Bought strawberry sponge cakes slices yesterday, together with 2 Mille feuille and a tiramisu. They all looked very beautiful but all tasted of nothing. The strawberry sponge cake was very dry and although it smelt divine in the box, I suspect it was the artificial jelly covering the strawberries that made it smell so good. The Mille feuille was also dry. As for the custard inside it, it was just a big yellow blob. I thought tiramisu was supposed to have coffee in it. Not this one. This was just a sponge layer with chocolate mousse in the middle. No hint of coffee whatsoever. All in all, not very good. Definitely would not recommend it. It's high time a French Patissier came to show these sub standard cake makers how it is done. If I'm paying the money, I want quality.
