Went on Regatta Saturday with wife and two young children and a similar family. We got there early and found a perfect location to sit where we could see the kids run about on the lawn but we still felt we were involved with the general bustle of the day. Having been many times over the years I was slightly concerned how child friendly Phyllis Court is but I very quickly changed my mind as there were many more children playing on the lawn than in previous years with no tutting from the older brigade.
Drinks were no more pricey than you would expect but food did seem expensive. Fortunately we live 5 min walk away so popped home for a picnic and back in an hour or so. Henley town is also 5 minutes walk away so easy to visit a restaurant and have a change of scene before going back.
All in all a fantastic relaxed day at the Regatta and already looking forward to next year.

My Company had an event at the Phyllis Court Club on the River for the Henley Royal Regatta ! Drinking Ruggeri Prosecco on a beautiful hot summers day by the river was just awesome ! The food was good and the service was excellent and my customer who was my guest said it was one of the best days of the year ! We had a fun time and will definitely go back to enjoy another noterday at Phyllis Court Club !

I had my 40th birthday at the club, the food was very good, the service was excellent indeed, the grounds and location can’t be beaten in Henley; you simply will not get this location anywhere on the river.

In regard to the comments about the hotel, its not a hotel! It’s a private members club who have rooms that are rented out, don’t come expecting a 5 star hotel, you will be disappointed; however if you want to experience a truly historic building and club then come along, yes the club has rules, and lots of regulations, however this is what makes the club different from everywhere else.

I have never had an issue with the staff or service, in fact my experiences have been faultless

Phyllis Court holds itself out to be a bastion of traditional standards and our expectations were high of this hotel, given the location, cost of the rooms and huge emphasis on dress code. However, it should look at its own standards and consider whether they would not benefit by being brought more into line with today's typical hotel offerings.

If you have the misfortune to be staying here do not be under the illusion that this is an hotel, it's a club and you, as a guest, are at best an irritant. There is clearly a level of service for members and a level of service for others which I felt was evident, and which made me feel a little uncomfortable. I have stayed in much classier hotels and been made to feel more welcome and less uncomfortable. You are talked down to, made to feel unwelcome if not inferior, and this is done by staff that appear to have limited training in how to do their job, or even pour a drink properly from the limited bar stock. If you smoke, or want to use a mobile phone, you are treated as a social pariah of the first order.

If you don’t wish to go for the full dining room dress code experience, the Orangery provides a very limited menu of 2 choices, and service was quite slow even with only a small number of diners. A group of more than 4 was made to feel distinctly unwelcome. The breakfast offerings were ok; nothing more than should be expected.

The rooms range from reasonably spacious to positively cramped. The facilities were OK but I felt everything needed an update. The mattresses need replacing as they show evidence of wear. There is a limited amount of storage space and I have built better quality cupboards. The bacony of our room was a bit dilapidated and overlooked a building site (so much for the river view!) where work started at around 7:30 am even on Sunday.

All of this and, at checkout, they tried to overcharge at least two guests.

Overall, the Phyllis Court is an overpriced pretentious club with a dated attitude and petty rules. However, I suspect that these very traits suit their members down to the ground.

This Club is a wonderful place to stay. The location down by the Thames is superb and so is the view from the bedroom windows. Thanks to a previous reviewer I asked for - and got - rooms with balconies, which were especially lovely in the morning sunshine. Above all the staff are brilliant here; every single person seemed happy and keen to make sure we were too. We ate lunch in the Orangery and dinner in the main restaurant: both were spot on with great quality food. Altogether this was a very congenial place to stay, close to the town (10 mins. footpath) and peaceful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony. Any bedding requests are noted and acted upon.

Sooooooooooo rude after attempting to book a wedding we gave up. The original amount agreed went up as much as £400 so pay for chairs to be put out even tho no one would be sitting in them. I know that we need to meet a minimum number of people but they should have told us how much when we spoke about money. Very let down. Such a shame as the place is stunning!

I was with a group of clients, the ones with the suites loved their rooms, the rest were so-so to happy with their rooms although a few complained they were cold. Did have hot water bottles in rooms though so that helped. Fairly good water pressure, room 14 was well equipped if a little small. Nice terrace balcony overlooking the Thames with the morning sun. Visitor parking is a long way from the entrance so park in the members bit then ask for a pass to save the walk. The food was excellent for b'fast, lunch and dinner, great service from general food and reception staff (not the bar staff so much). In a decent state of decoration considering we are post-recession, old fashioned taste mixed with modern style but in a nice way, it works. Dress code a little fussy, no jeans no trainers would have been simpler but they do go on a bit! Felt like an upmarket place and good for impressing clients. Will use it again in future.

Room Tip: I don't think all the suites have Thames views and terraces but the smaller rooms do.
