“Quite nice.”
Reviewed 28 June 2014

My only complaint was that the carpet was considerably stained. While the reception and public areas are quite small, the staff is quite willing to do almost anything to insure that their guests have a wonderful stay. They bring a generous basket of continental breakfast items and each room is outfitted with a microwave, sink, fridge, and dishes. Coffee and tea is also provided. The neighborhood is quiet, but there is the famous "Head of the River Pub" just a block away and several smaller cafes and restaurants are also in close proximity, and there's a Tesco three blocks away. Convenient to Oxford University and the Thames Walk. It's a winner for a short stay in Oxford.

My husband and I stayed at the Ethos Hotel for three nights in April 2014. We were looking for a comfortable, affordable base from which to sight see and visit family in the Oxford area. We were very pleased with the Ethos. The hotel is located on a side street in a very quiet residential area just south of the the Folly Bridge that crosses the Thames. We enjoyed nice walks to the center of Oxford from the hotel. We had a lovely king room on the second floor of the main building and enjoyed the open windows and skylights very much! The room was an adequate size for two adults, bed was very comfortable and the room was very clean. We loved the location, the room and we plan to stay here on our next trip to Oxford.

I booked this hotel as part of my partners birthday surprise yesterday, I had managed to get tickets for a comedy gig at the New Oxford theatre and chose this hotel to stay in over others due to the great reviews, lovely pictures online and it's convenient location to the city centre. My expectations were exceeded by the amazing customer service from the reception staff who not only contacted me to confirm when we would be checking in but also upgraded us to the beautiful sky loft suite after I mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday. The suite itself was amazing, clean, spacious and beautifully presented. We both agreed that the bed was the most comfortable we had ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. The breakfast offering within the room was more than enough for two with lots of lovely touches such as fresh milk in the fridge and massive chocolate muffins! Sky on the massive tv's was a lovely bonus too. Thank you so much for helping make his birthday so special :)

We recently stayed at The Ethos after searching for a reasonably priced B&B in the center of Oxford......not an easy task.....we were very happy with this hotel. The location was perfect, close enough to walk into the city centre but also near a bus route on the corner of Western Road and Abingdon Road. Our room was modern, spacious, clean and with the added bonus of a kitchen area. We unfortunately left our laptop connector plug which was kindly sent back to us overnight. We have already recommended The Ethos to our friends and will stay again.

This was my first experience with an Oxford hotel and it was definitely positive. Anka is a great and very friendly manager who will do anything to accommodate your wishes and was extremely helpful.

I booked this hotel to surprise my partner and we were indeed both surprised! We found the room very nice decorated with very nice swan on the bed and red petal roses, chocolate and champagne!

The bed was very comfy, the room clean and luxury. The building and the location is great. I would highly recommend everyone to stay at the Ethos Hotel.

Thank you again for everything and we cannot wait to come back soon!

We stayed at this hotel for one night along with relatives. Our accommodations was lovely being over two floors. However it is unforgivable for a hotel to have such unpleasant toilet pans. In both our room and relatives room the pans were thick with dirty lime scale stains and not what one would expect from a boutique hotel. Also there was a very strange chemical, acrid, bitter smell which pervaded the whole building. Having said that the member of staff who was on duty, very quickly provided a kettle which was missing from one of the rooms. And also the breakfast basket (which is quite generous) was also missing from the room but was soon forthcoming when it was asked for.

Room Tip: Ask for the room at the top (room 12)

This is definately not a hotel. You are left to your own devices and I would call it a budget apartment at best. The decor which was probably very nice when new. Is beginning to look tired. The bathroom was dirty, especially around the shower. The TV when I finally got it to work would only show bbc1. The complimentary breakfast was cereals and muffins, which you had to eat perched on the bed. The only good point was that it is a short distance to the centre of oxford. I would not use the ethos again or reccomend it to anyone else.

Room Tip: No restuarant, swimming pool or room service.if you want a hotel. Stay somewhere else.
