“Good value for the cost of this B&B”
Reviewed 16 July 2012

This B&B was quite good value in comparison to other places in Oxford.

The breakfast was nice and they provide a full veggie breakfast. The room was medium sized with a bathroom ensuite (shower) and a comfortable bed. It's all very clean and well maintained and is a breath of fresh air.
There is a TV in the room and the b&b is very quiet. It's about a 10 minute walk from Christchurch.

I would stay here again.

During a recent trip to Great Britain, we stayed in two hotels and three guest houses. This was the best guest house experience. The owners were very nice and invited us to store bags both before and after our one night stay. Breakfast was good. The triple room on the ground floor in the front of the house was large enough, comfortable, clean. The location is perfect - easy walk into town and close to a bus stop if opting to not walk.

A guest 'house' with no owners living in it. God forbid an emergency occurring. Lost your keys? Rowdy guests?!

I would say this is more of a factory to make an income! No warmt or thought to a cosy stay.
Broken bed, cigarette paper thin walls between the crammed rooms inside this converted house. The dusty left over toothbrush and broken towl ring under the bathroom sink was a nice touch!
When I mentioned the broken single bed to the owner I was fobbed off arrogantly, in denial of even the possibilty of any issue.
Will avoid on future stays.

The location of this guesthouse is very good: a short walk along St. Algates to the city center, past Christ Church. Our hosts were fine, as was the room and the breakfasts. There is a pub on the corner, and a wonderful restaurant/pub, The Head of the River, about 3 blocks away.

We often use this when attending gaming weekends in Oxford since it's near to the pub hosting the event, and it suffices as a place to crash for the night.

It's somewhat shabby in places; some rooms now have ensuite fitted but they look like DIY jobs (I couldn't get the shower to work properly in one and the other had a shower door hanging off), you may find noise from the street or back gardens carries (no real sound insulation on the windows) and their WiFi can be sporadic (a friend logged into - then rebooted - their router to get a better speed).

On occasions when I've made it for breakfast it's been a good fry-up, and the owners are amenable for their dining facilities to be used should you return with a late-night kebab/chip van product.

I would still return there since I know what to expect, but it's more student-level doss-house and somewhat overpriced for what I normally pay - but then you kinda expect to pay more when in Oxford. However, there are many other B&Bs that offer a much nicer room for the same price; we picked it solely for location.

Room Tip: Front rooms could be noisy. Ground and first floor seem okay, top floor seems cramped. Watch out tha...

Guest House was well situated, 15 mins easy walk to town centre, and very near bus routes. Room was very clean, though not big, no comfortable chairs, and slightly dodgy electrics. Double bed was smaller than we had been led to expect, but mattress was comfortable. Decor was drab and tired and en suite was very small. Towels and linen were very clean, with towels renewed daily. Breakfast was good standard English, with continental option, which I would not particularly recommend. Don't ask for poached eggs, they were rock hard. Guests sit on two tables, so there is inevitable sharing, and/or waiting if it is particularly busy. Out of 5 mornings, we waited on one.
Guest house is perfectly adequate for a short stay, our five days was as long as we wanted to be there, without more home comforts.

I stayed in one of the ensuite single rooms. It was immaculately clean. There was a good sized kettle and the shower and toilet was very pleasant and looked recently refurbished. The bed wasn't the most comfortable, but there were plenty of pillows and so I still had a nice sleep. In the morning, the staff were really friendly too.
