“Dark and dismal”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Low lighting, loud music, no atmosphere and terrible staff. The staff were laughing a lot and having a good time amongst themselves but ignoring customers. After waiting some time for service, one of the staff eventually reluctantly served me but looked very unhappy about having to do it. This place probably gets packed at weekends by the very young. I don't know why anyone else would want to go there.

“Great place to start a night out”
Reviewed 8 February 2014 via mobile

Went here for drinks which were very well priced!

Free entry before 10pm on weekends, busy but nice atmosphere and quick service at the bar, dj was good too and you can request songs you like.

“poor poor food...”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

went yesterday to Bell and compass for the special lunch deal...6£ for 2 course meal..(cheap true) but it's a joke what food you get...My friend ordered as main a king prawn salad which literally came with no rocket although on menu stated it comes with rocket, two massive lettuce leafs and 4 prawns, one tiny tomato. It was hilarious! we were very happy we ordered garlic bread too otherwise we would've starved!to bring out this insignificant food took over 40 min....chocolate fudge cake was long staled cake...and the wine Shiraz was so soured! very disappointed, id rather go to a cheap pub than waste even those£6 in there.

“Brilliant venue”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

Attended as part of a night out with friends so it was a bit later on in the evening and drink was flowing. Ordered the garlic butter prawns and they were excellent. The sauce was beautiful and the prawns delicious. Only let down that there seemed to be a slight lack of bar staff that night and was slow to get served.

“Turned away a guide dog!”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

Appalling! Being told to leave for having a guide dog in our party! Didn’t think there were that many places around that would discriminate against a blind person. Staff not only told us he wasn’t to remain but then, as soon as we finished talking to them, turned the lights down and music up very high to try and spook the dog (which obviously didn’t work as he was a guide dog). Disgraceful behaviour! This was 20 mins before they became a ‘late night’ venue, so very clearly trying to chase us out. The manager came and tried to pass it off by saying he was concerned the guide dog might get glass fragments in his paws, but how does he expect the dog deals with any other pub, or even the streets of any city where broken glass is a fact of life? Either way, the message was clear – our blind friend and his guide dog were not welcome. Needless to say we all left then and there, but it’s shocking to see places that still blatantly ignore the laws against discrimination, not to mention common human decency. Establishments like these need to learn that discrimination is never acceptable.
