“Lively very popular gastropub”
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Certainly very lively and not for an intimate date on a Saturday night! But, food is really great. Succulent and well cooked sirloin steaks and divine puds. Needs more range for vegetarians but will certainly revisit.

“Rowdy ambience and off-hand service”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

We've eaten at the Magdalen Arms since it opened as a pub serving serious food, and I'm afraid it's now to be avoided. It caters to large, boisterous parties, making it a poor place for smaller tables. The quality of the food is no longer so attentive, and the service, which used to compensate, is characterised by indifference. We won't be coming back.

“Excellent gastropub on the Iffley Road”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

I have eaten at the 'Maggie' Arms several times over the last couple of years and have never been disappointed. Their pies and roasts, usually of a size to share between 2 or more diners, are the high point of the menu. Portions are very generous and the service is efficient and friendly. The atmosphere is lively and pretty noisy at busy times such as Saturday nights or Sunday lunchtimes. Highly recommended.

“Wonderful!!!”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

one of my favorites! nice indoor and outdoor space. Close to everything, included the river. If your are staying close to Magdalen College or the St Clements coach stop, this is a great spot. As all Brit pubs thriving to survive, this one adds a bit of edge (some may say "ethnic" flavor) to its food. You won't find fish and chips here or burgers, but they will delight you with delicious hake and lentils, or with an amazing confited duck leg. Beers are great, and prices a bit more $$ than neighboring pubs but fair.
love the place.

“Come on an empty stomach”
Reviewed 1 June 2014

Worth fasting for as long as you can manage before you make the trip east -- and even then you may struggle to finish more than one course. A great selection of game (and other foodstuffs) on the menu. I had a sublime hare ragu with polenta. Delicious, but certainly not light.
