A party of 54 of us went for lunch last Friday, the food was delicious and prompt after our arrival and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Huge garden for us all to have drinks after our meal as well. All in all, a lovely summer day out.

“A great pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

We visited the Victoria Arms on a staff team night out. We punted down to the pub from the Cherwell Boat House and had a lovely meal. We had pre-ordered and booked although we were late! The team couldn’t have been nicer about rearranging our booking and the food, service and general ambience made for a lovely evening. Thank you !

“Absolutely disgusting”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

I have never felt so strongly about something to actually bother going online to leave a review until my experience at The Victoria Arms. Never in my life have I had such a terrible meal out! The place is dirty (the actual pub itself and also the glasses and cutlery etc), the staff are rude and unhelpful (young kids who have no idea what they are doing and with no manners, which do not cost a thing), the food is cold and disgusting (when it finally arrives), and the management are useless. The only reason this pub is still there is because of its location. A real shame that this pub is exploiting its customers because of its setting. My advice - don't go anywhere near this place! A new manager is badly needed, the guy in charge at the moment hasn't got a clue about customer service.

“Nice location, OK food but appalling service!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

Went for an extended family lunch with 15 people. When we arrived the pub was not especially busy - no queuing time to get a drink at the bar - hardly anyone eating. Had a drink outside then went to the table in the "special" room for groups. Another party (about 6) were already there and were fed up with waiting for food. In fact, they later got some money off for the delay. We sat donw and then proceeded to wait 15 minutes before a waitress came to take the order. She went off and we waited. And waited. And waited. 30 minutes later we asked progress. "Ah, you should have been told there is a 45 minute delay and you ordered at 1-37pm". Wow! So precise. Still, no fuss. Let's wait. At 2-20 the first 2 plates of food arrived (note, this was almost an hour after we had been shown to the table in what was a quiet restaurant). The plates then came one by one, or sometimes two by two (one wrong dish) until after another 15 minutes, the last plate arrived. 15 minutes!!! The first person has almost finished by the time the last one was served. The food was OK. Nothing special but OK. Bill was £165 for 15 main courses (no starters or puddings), so not cheap but not too bad. All in all, a reasonable place to have a beer by the river, but never, ever eat there. Unless you take supplies to keep you from starving while you wait.

“Rip off”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

Lovely to stop for a pint after a punt but don't eat. £3 for a tiny bowl of cold chips. Baguettes are dry, no butter and expensive. £5.95 for a take away baguette. The food from the restaurant is just as poor - bring a sandwich with you!

Dear guest,
sorry to hear about your chips, i do believe on the day your party was given a full refund for the chips as they were by mistake put into the wrong size bowls

in regards to the baguette we do butter them but maybe on this occasion a couple maybe had been missed out.our baguettes are individually priced to go.we could of buttered your baguette if it was how you required it. once again my apologies on this matter.we would love to know which food you thought was poor from our main menu so we can also look at this. please do contact us kind regards
Lizzie.
