“Value for Money”
Reviewed 16 August 2011

Let me start by saying that hotel accommodation in Oxford is greatly overpriced so this hotel would appear to represent good value for money. However, you have to be prepared to fork out nearly £100 for a room which, elsewhere, you'd expect to pay less than £50.
Rooms at this hotel vary enormously in quality and in size. I have stayed here several times and have only found one room to be worth anything special. The linen and furniture in the rooms do tend to have a musty smell and quite a dated appearance. One or two rooms I have stayed in have tended to be noisy also.
Having said that the rooms are musty and dated, I must say that the bathrooms do tend to be quite the opposite, very modern and clean. This is a pleasant aspect of your stay here but it is a pity the hotel could not have spent some more money updating the rooms.
I do enjoy breakfast at this hotel, it si serve yourself but there is plenty of variety to choose from and the atmosphere is not rushed.
The restaurant and bar menu does not seem to vary, which means that you face the same choice day in and day out, which could become annoying if you spend more than a couple of nights here. It is also a fair walk to the nearest restaurants! The bar does serve real ale but in bottles, so do take the time to look behind the bar for a small choice.
The staff here are usually very friendly, which is a great help.
For those of you, like me, who usually use the internet at a hotel, this one has free access. Not always that fast and it seems not always available easily in some of the rooms but a great benefit nonetheless.

The hotel is in a good location for Oxford as you can walk in to the center in about 20 minutes and the staff are friendly & he;pful but that's really all you can say about this hotel. The room was small & red hot as there was a hot water pipe running through the room which was a very efficient radiator. Great in the winter! Luckily there was a fan in the wardrobe. The bed was comfortable & the room was clean. The step up to the bathroom tripped us both until we were used to it. Breakfast was £12.50 each on top of the room rate, but don't bother. For that we had a lukewarm buffet. You'd be much better walking up to Summertown to one of the many cafes there. As we weere only staying one night we didn't bother to complain. This is the first Best Western we have stayed in and frankly if that's the standard we won't be bothering again.

Finding a hotel in Oxford at a reasonable price is difficult. The Best Western Linton Lodge is a very good deal with a room and breakfast at a decent price. The rooms are on the small size and the hotel a bit of a rabbit warren with hallways upon hallways and multiple doorways. Yet, I've rarely found a hotel with a staff that is uniformly so pleasant from the cleaning staff to the front desk. For those who don't mind a 15-20 minute walk to downtown the hotel is very much within reach without a bicycle or taxi.

Room Tip: Eat (and drink) at the Lion and Rose pub just a 10 minute walk off of Banbury on N. Parade. Especia...

We stopped off here on the way to the Lake District for one night. Huge great room on the ground floor with views of the lovely secluded garden, where we sat after arrivalk and enjoyed a cold beer. We arrived earlier than the advertised check-in time but the courteous staff put up no objection to our checking in and putting our bits into our room. We spent most of the day in Oxford - the hotel is in a very quiet, leafy and obviously wealthy part of the city - and the hotel's location enabled us to walk in and out in 20 minutes.

One problem that we did bring to BW attention - one half of the Emperor-sized bed was collapsed - so one of us (!) had a very poor night.

Breakfast was fine - not spectacular - but for 60 quid, including free-parking 20 minutes from the centre of Oxford, this was great value for money and we will definitely use it again when we spend time in Oxford.

Visited with a coach party returning from Royal Ascot for an evening meal. Although our group was small in number we were treated excellently and made most welcome. The meal was served efficiently and the food good value, Staff were very amenable, and overall pleased with the package. We will look to returning again in the future and recommend the restaurant to others.

We stayed with a group of about 30 people at Best Western and it was all in all fine. Though they were a bit too bureaucratic during the check in, it went well. Rooms were ok, not really spacey, but fine. Breakfast was rather good.
Unfortunately the hotel is about 2 km from the Bodleian Library etc. away, so try to take the bus to get back to the hotel.
