“Nice hotel and great location”
Reviewed 23 October 2011

We were very glad we chose the Old Bank Hotel for our recent visit to Oxford. It is an easy walk to all the major attractions, the service is friendly and efficient, and the restaurant is excellent.
I think the best option is the stay and dine package, because it is good value and the food in the Quod Brasserie cannot be faulted. Dinner was very good and the breakfast was easily the best I have ever had in any hotel in England. Everything was so fresh and cooked exactly as we asked. Our room at the back of the hotel was extremely small but lovely and quiet.

The Old Bank Hotel really didn't disappoint. The staff in both the hotel and restaurant (Quod) were both friendly and helpful. Don't miss the free 2 hour walking tour that they offer with a local guide - she is excellent and there were only 6 of us on our walk so it felt very personal. My room, Number 10, on the first floor was a deluxe double with a great view right out onto the High Street. The only downside is that it was quite noisy in spite of the double glazing. I slept really well but if you are a light sleeper you might prefer something quieter at the back. I also really appreciated the fact that there was a separate guest lounge - the library bar - on the ground floor where you can get free tea and coffee and pick up a book. This was my first visit to Oxford but I would be very happy to return.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the building get a bit of traffic noise from the High Street.

The staff at Old Bank is very welcoming and helpful, including both at the reception and in the restaurant. The breakfast was a simple buffet with a choice of 'add-ons' which was innovative and relatively good value compared to some places where you have a very big buffet but at a much higher price. There is also a little area behind the reception called the Library where you can have drinks and read the paper (or read the books obviously), and service here is also quick and friendly.

The location is fantastic as others have noted, right on the high street with views of Radcliffe Camera, and the meadows and river are 10 minutes walk away if you want more nature. The car park is a bonus for those driving.

The room we had was just large enough and well appointed if ever so slightly worn - in a few more years it might be looking rather tired. We had a street side view but it was not too noisy with the double glazing. The bathroom was perhaps the highlight, separate bath and shower, very good water pressure, good plumbing and fancy soaps. Overall it was a very good experience but the simple point is that these are almost London prices so didn't feel it was a 5 star rating.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at the Old Bank Hotel in Oxford to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Everything about our stay was excellent. The Room was lovely, the restaurant (Quod) was superb, most of all the staff were so welcoming and so friendly and so helpful. This really is an excellent place and as other reviewers have said it is in such an excellent location for all the colleges and sights of Oxford. The reception staff are amazing and all of the staff in Quod Brasserie were really superb, including the Maitre'de who runs a wonderful restaurant. We will return and thank you to all at the Old Bank for a wonderful time !!!!!

Room Tip: We stayed in a room overlooking the back of the hotel which I guess meant it was quiter.

We will long remember the kindness extended to us by the staff at the Old Bank Hotel. They willingly offered to help us deal with our car rental company and let us keep the car in the hotel parking lot after we checked out, while waiting for the car to be picked up. The staff was friendly, accommodating, polite and all around a real pleasure to experience. Our room was very clean, comfortable and we had a great view out of our window. We ate two meals in Quid restuarant and were very satisfied; good food (chicken was yummy!) and good service.
I We would return to this hotel again.

The central location of this hotel is wonderful. With most places just a short walk away.
The reception staff could not do enough for us and it would be remiss to not mention one of the receptionists Natasha. We had already spoken with here before our visit for directions and also to clarify a few things during our stay. If only all hotel’s employed people like her. Courteous, polite and very helpful.
Our room was clean and well appointed. Our bathroom was a little cosy with the WC very close to a wall. I share the view that the air conditioning was a little noisy – but necessary.
We ate in their restaurant the QUOD for breakfast and an evening meal. Food was superb and again very polite staff. Try the cocktails they are knock out. My only improvement would be to suggest better glassware. When you are drinking an expensive wine, cheap glasses don’t work for me.

So all in all a great place to stay in central location. We will visit again

The location of this hotel opposite St Mary the Virgin in the High Street is amazingly central. The secondary glazing provides sufficient muffling of any outside noise (and we stayed during freshers week!!) although the air conditioning was a little noisy - but necessary. Nice to have both bath and separate shower cubicle. The room was a little on the small side and having to go on all fours in order to retrieve tea/coffee making facilities from a floor cupboard was not in keeping with the general standards of the hotel. We stayed on a Sunday night which had the added treat of live jazz in the restaurant. The food in the Quod brasserie was fantastic - absolutely no complaints there. The reception staff were both friendly and efficient. Would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and would love to return there myself.
