“Our Oxford Retreat”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2010

We have been staying at the Old Bank Hotel as we do Diploma program at Oxford throughout the year and find it our home away from home. The hotel is not perfect and they have made a few mistakes, but to their credit they always, one admit the mistake and then promptly take care of it. The hotel is in a perfect location and the rooms are nice, modern and comfortable. We reckon it is the best hotel in Oxford proper and after doing our research we continue to stay at the Old Bank.

Thanks for your review

I'm glad to hear that we are your Oxford Retreat. So sorry we made a couple of mistakes. We try our best to make sure everything is perfect though I will concede the odd error.

See you soon.

Excellent location in the centre of Oxford. The room was spacious and comfortable with a great bathroom and nice products. We did the complimentary walking tour and it was excellent. We ate at the Bistro and it was very nice and reasonable. I would not hesitate to return or recommend.

We have just got home following two nights in the Old Bank hotel. We had only booked for one night, but liked it so much, as well as wanting to see more of Oxford, that we stayed an extra night. Our first night was on the stay and dine plan, which was good value; the restaurant serves very nice Mediterranean style food all reasonably priced. There is also an outside terrace in a courtyard at the back of the hotel , which is a lovely place to sit and eat. Our second night we had to change room (our first had been specifically booked for that night), but ended up in a really beautiful room at the top of the hotel with views over colleges and churches. Very nice breakfasts both mornings with friendly welcoming staff. Oh, and do take the complementary walking tour, it was very informativeand helped us to decide what to do the following days. We will definately return to Oxford and to this hotel.

Thanks very much for your review.

I think you had room 45 on your last night: it really does have stunning views over the spires. The phrase 'Dreaming spires' is certainly apt. It's almost like gazing out to another time.

See you on your next visit.

Couldn't beat this hotel for it's location for exploring Oxford. The free guided walking tour was a real bonus as was the free parking. The result its location and the fact this is a 4 star in the city centre is the price which isn't cheap. The rooms are tastfully decorated and the Delux is a good size. What let things down for us was the lack of modern air-conditioning for such an expensive hotel. There is none to speak of and what is in place can't be adjusted and is v noisy. We left it on for the day when we left to try to cool the room but on return found housekeeping had turned it off. If this was upgraded we would have rated hotel much better.

Thank you for your review.

So sorry the air con was not up to scratch, this visit. I believe we had a slight fault during your stay that reduced the effectiveness of the system. We are actually due an upgrade on the whole system this month so by your next visit there will be no shortage of cool air.

I stayed here for a weekend with 2 friends in June. Perfect location, easily accessible by bus from the station. There was plenty to do within walking distance of the hotel.
Staff were friendly, helpful and proffessional. Lovely bar and restaurant with plenty of locals also there. Room was made up for 3 of us and wasa good size and very comfortable.
I would highly recommend this hotel and location for couples, friends w/e, travelling with kids

We had a fine four night stay at the Old Bank in two rooms. The location in central Oxford was ideal and we could walk everywhere. Several concerts at a piano festival were right across the street, an unexpected bonus for our music-loving family. Our rooms had a pleasant view of the spires. The room decor was nicely neutral, punched up with contemporary art. We enjoyed the hotel restaurant Quod so much that we ate dinner there several times -- the menu had something for everyone, the atmosphere was casual yet special, there was a patio for outside seating, and service was good. Room service had a limited mostly cold menu but the food we got from room service was delicious nonetheless. Desk service was friendly, and was also gracious about serving us a continental breakfast in the room slightly later than official breakfast hours when the time change caused us to sleep late. All in all, the Old Bank is a hotel I would return to with pleasure.

We are so lucky being centrally placed. I sometimes forget how pleasant the university buildings are. But when I read the reviews and speak with guests I realise again how magical Oxford is.

See on your next visit.
