Location is great...between rail station and coach station, close to car rental and sight-seeing bus stop. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, pubs and Oxford attractions.
Rooms are well-renovated, with comfortable heating and air conditioning. Double windows keep out most of the street noise. Everything is neat, clean and well maintained. Showers and tubs are updated, but entry and exit can be difficult for the older and less fit. There is no lift, but the staff is more than willing to carry luggage up and down the stairs!
The Staff is WONDERFUL! They were always cheerful and they quickly responded to every request. An example of world-class customer service that greatly exceeded our expectations!
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to family and friends.

Our stay at the hotel was fine. The only comment is the hotel has no on site parking, however the staff were helpful in securing an over night space in staples car park close by. The hotel is situated on a busy road junction, so if you have the windows open the room becomes quite noisy. Overall, the rooms were clean and the staff helpful throughout the duration of our stay.

The best thing about this hotel is its location, which is close to the train station. The room was quite basic, the floor squeaky to walk on. There were only two lights in the room, they were both wall mounted and only controlled by a switch at the entrance to the room. The furniture was quite old.

The free fruits and bottled water supplied to the room were very appreciated. The receptionists were helpful, friendly and professional. There was no lift in the building but the porter would take your luggages to your room.

booked for a girls weekend away - 15 of us the hotel is basic but clean and everything you need for a nice weekend away with the city centre only a 5 mionute walk away and all the attractions. the hotel staff are so nice and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean with tea/coffe facilities and biscuits and free wifi if required all in all would go back. only a few things it is on the end of a street that really comes alive at night so you will hear noise and alot of sirens etc but I think that is the price you pay for wnating to stay in such a perfectly located hotel. not boutique by any means but if you want that you will be paying alot of money for a city centre location .. I would definatly go back we all had a great weekend and was looked after well.

Finding very good accommodations at a reasonable price in Oxford is a task worthy of an Oxford Scholar. The Royal Oxford Hotel is a great find. Nice, very clean rooms at a moderate price. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about restaurants, attractions, and even where one could do laundry. It is located in the more bohemian part of the city (as opposed to the High Street part), within walking distance of many good restaurants (including a Jamie Oliver joint), but you can walk to the colleges easily.

It is in adversity that one can really judge a staff. We had trouble with the drains in our shower and they dealt with the situation promptly by moving us next door. There is restaurant attached to the hotel with a great bar and great meals. It was a great base of operations for both business and sightseeing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the street--it can get a bit noisy, but closed windows keep out the city sounds!
