“Very good museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

We spent several hours at the mudeum but there was much we didn't see. The Egyptian exhibits were very interesting and well displayeyd. I also enjoyed the textiles and 'money' exhibitions. Although much smaller than the British Museum in London it came a very close second in enjoyment of the visit.

“Excellent and relaxed viewing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

It is always a pleasure to visit the Ashmolean. There is plenty to see in the permanent stock and they often have very interesting temporary exhibitions. The current Bacon/Moore show is well worth a visit as they are able to draw connections between these two great artists which I had no idea existed. It is a very relaxed experience as the exhibition is not too large and it is not crowded.

One word of warning, beware the old ladies on the ticket desk. On one visit, a year or so ago, we somehow got charged twice - we were assured that the first attempt to pay by card had not been successful so we paid again, only to find that our statement showed we had paid twice. It took a while to sort that out, as you can imagine.

i live in Paris, and as an art historian who had visited many museums in Europe I have to say- this one is one of the best! Free entrance, you can take photos, great exhibits to sea, calm and intimate!

“Excellent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

A very impressive entrance to a very impressive display of exhibits, having visited many times and arrived at the conclusion that if possible it is a better option to browse through one period in history at a time, for me it's just too much to take it all in in one visit, but time and again returning to both browse different periods and objects on display. If there's one failing, it's the coffee shop, it should be bigger and better organised, the staff are very polite and helpful but constantly having to operate in a system that was meant for another time. But do go and see for yourself how ell set out the exhibits are and it's a great place to spend an hour or two.

“wonderful diversity”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 December 2013

visited on a trip to Oxford and what can i say but very impressive, the visiting exhibition of Old drawings and Stradavarius Violins was amazing and this plus all the other exhibits meant a fascinating morning spent looking at it all. Not enough time to have a look at all so will have to go back
