Owner description: The Bodleian Library is a working library which forms part of the University of Oxford. It is housed in a remarkable group of buildings which forms the historic heart of the University, and you can explore the quadrangles of these magnificent structures at no charge. Different ticket options allow you to visit the interior of some of the buildings, such as the University’s oldest teaching and examination room, The Divinity School (built 1427-88). Here you will discover more of the University’s fascinating history. Our guided tours go behind the scenes in the Library, including its oldest research library, dating from 1602-20.

“90 minute library tour”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

Very impressive place. I took the extended tour of 90 minutes as it was the only way I could see the library.

“Definitely worth the money for the extended tour”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

Took the extended tour, which goes for 90 minutes (but is so interesting feels like much less). Definitely worth it! The tour guide is extremely knowledgeable about the library and the tour includes parts of the library that one would never have an opportunity to visit otherwise.

“What a place to visit”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

We have bought the extended tour of Bodleian and Radcliffe Camera and we were not disappointed. We bought the tour through the library and the guide was just exceptional. The tour was even better as there were only 5 people there (tour it is limited to 12). If you buy extended tour, you will get chance to see the Radliffe Camera as which is closed to public. The extended tour is only twice as week (ours was on Wednesday) and I think you can book it in advance over the internet. If like me, you fail to plan ahead, you can go to the library ticket office and buy the tickets the day before or on the day. The staff is really helpful.

“chained books?”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Yes, when books were very rare and expensive goods, they were chained to the bookshelfs where they stood so they could not disappear ...
Only to be seen if you take a guided tour. Recommended!
For people who don't have english as native language it is great to listen to the guides well pronounced explanations and become astonished, what a lot of words in your brains are still stored since school time.

“Fantastic library, excellent tour guide.”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

I really enjoyed this one hour guided tour at the Bodleian Library. It was £7 and definitely worth every penny.
Our tour guide, a lovely lady, told us how she hadn't done any tours for 6 months, but she was brilliant, and knew about so many thing.
I can strongly recommend this 1 hour guided tour.
It's a must when you visit Oxford.
