“The stairs were endless, but the view is worth it - whole Oxford under your eyes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 April 2014

A very nice building by Christopher Wren - it was a tourist day, not a concert so I cannot talk about acoustics and I did not care the seating, but the building is definitely very nice. Climbing up the stairs was a bit tiring, but we were rewarded twice: first under the timber roof where we found a very nice exhibition of a history of the building and after that (OMG stairs and stairs again) on the top small rotunda tower - the most amazing views over Oxford in every direction. And do not be afraid, my 76 mother in law did it, as well as myself with my overweight :-(.

“fantastic concerts - shame about the seating.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

Yes you can experience the most beautiful music here - Oxford is full of wonderful concerts - our favourite orchestra is the philomusica but the seats are hard and unforgiving - the place was designed for under graduates to receive their awards . Some bench seating does not even have a back to it and for popular events it will be fully booked. If you can afford it pay for a chair at the front or at least the front row of benching!! Sometimes you can get a special package of ticket for performance, interval drink and supper in one of the colleges afterwards - this is really special - especially if you are a visitor - its a great way to see one of the famous oxford colleges.

“The views from the top are worth the climb”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2014

What's not to like about a building designed by Christopher Wren? It's main rotunda is just spectacular, and, like all Oxford buildings, still in regular use. Walking up a bizillion winding stairs brings you to a room that features an interesting historic display as well as an incredible opportunity to look at the singularly wonderful timber framing of the complex roof. Up more stairs & you're inside that roof, with the most amazing views over the City in every direction. It's not the easiest climb, but my 83 year old mother made it, & it was worth every step.

“Classical Concert”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014

went for Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev and was amazed, it was excellent. It cost £10 to sit up in the balcony, it was really most enjoyable.

Suggest anyone doing the £10 seats should take cushions as the wooden benches are rather hard!
