Owner description: Considered one of the oldest university buildings in the world, this is a superb example of Church Architecture from the 13th century.

The interior of the University Church of St. Mary the Virgin is beautiful and open free to the public. For £4, you can climb the 127 stairs to the top of the tower. Note, the initial stairs are relatively easy, but the latter half is a spiral and you will need to squeeze past others or occasionally jump into a window recess if anyone is going in the opposite direction. It is completely worth it though. The views are amazing and worth the small fee.

£4 for a trip up the tower, take your camera. not a lot of room up and down the stairs. there's not much room for at the top. Single file around the top. The views are Fantastic, well worth the trip and squeeze once up there.

There was a rehearsal taking place with local children for a performance related to Noah, so we felt we could not wander around. The staff seemed to be very busy so didn't find details of the tower visit nor could we see the original Oxford University teaching rooms

The church itself is very pretty but the main thing you want to go there for is the spectacular view from the top (well, somewhere near the top at least). After climbing a few steep and narrow steps you will be able to see all of Oxford from the bird's perspective. A narrow path will lead you all around the church's tower. This seems to be the place where the famous colleges are photographed from. Also you get a very nice view of the Ratcliff Camera which, after all, is one of the city's main sights. Going up costs £4. Discounts for students etc. are available. There is a nice cafe annexed to the church where you can get some tea and food after your descent...

I got the chance to go in on a beautiful October sunny morning and it was just beautiful inside. The pews are old and worn and transport you back in history.
