My partner and I stayed here for a weekend to check out Oxford. The hotel is clean, mostly modern, quiet and well placed. The staff, especially the breakfast team, were efficient, friendly and just lovely. The breakfast spread was plentiful in both cooked and continental choices. The dining room was very well decorated and over looks, what will be a very pretty garden space come the nice weather. The room was clean, spacious and quiet as we were at the back of the hotel. The hotel is on the main road but has good off road, private parking and is ideally situated for local shops and restaurants. The city centre is a flat 20/25 minute walk or to the right of the hotel there are more immediate shops, pubs and places to eat. Whilst in Oxford we recommend the castle tour, good value for only ten pounds and a visit to the turf tavern is a must, as it is the oldest pub in Oxford and do different food, like sweet potatoe wedges in sour cream, as a light snack.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back on the top floor.. No. 41 was good.

Looking for a stylish, comfortable and yet BUDGET hotel in Oxford (or near Oxford city centre), I would recommend Galaxie when comparing with other hotels (around Oxford including city centre) that I has accommodated. I had been to it for three times during last year. Look at the website of the hotel, you can feel the nice environment. I can say it is 100 percent real. (For some hotels that shown a big swimming pool in the photo in the website, how disappointed when you found out that it is only 10 metres when you are there.) The rooms are clean and modern. Don't miss the breakfast (FREE) in the greenhouse, it is the best in my experiences of UK hotels. If you drive, there are free carparks available. It is adjacent to Summertown where there are supermarkets, restaurants and coffee shops.
If you come by rail, there are a lot of taxis outside the rail station waiting for you. It costs you only a few pounds. You can also rent a car from Avis, it is just beside the rail. It takes you around five minutes from there to the hotel. If you come by coach from the airport, just take a taxi which is easy to find one around the coach station. Remember, it is so easy to get or call a taxi in Oxford. Try to avoid the so-called hotel in the city centre around the coach station or George street, they are dirty and small but of the same price.

Room Tip: If you want to enjoy your sleep until 9:00am, don't stay on the ground floor near the carparks...

This is the first time that i have stayed in this hotel, and i am hoping to return to this good hotel sometime this year. The room was clean and tidy although it was rather small. The best part was definately the breakfast in a nice environment. The staff couldn't of been nicer!

Room Tip: Get a room at the back

I stayed as a last minute decision and I would recommend this place to everyone. To start off with they don't try and rip you off on pricing. The bed I had was clean and comfy, the wifi actually works and is super speedy, shower and toilet facilities are modern, tv had plenty of channels and the room was warm.

The restaurant is completely out of the world. To start with its modern and fits the hotels natural beauty rather elegantly and the staff are very polite, helpful and are dressed very smartly.the service is top notch and resembles the high standards of a leading hotel I stayed in a while ago in Chelsea.

If you get the chance then stay here, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

This hotel is about 1.25 miles from the center of Oxford, but was perfectly located for visiting friends in Summertown. There are frequent busses on Banbury Road if you don't want to walk. The hotel is family-owned and the staff are friendly. Rooms are minimalist, meaning fine for sleeping and bathing, but not for hanging out. Our double bed was okay, kind of sagging like most beds in UK inns and hotels. The comforter and pillows were good quality and clean. The room and bathroom was very clean. The furniture and fixtures were kind of cheap and flimsy. One complaint I had was that there was no shelf in the bathroom to put anything (pedestal sink) and no hooks to hang clothes. The other annoyance was that I took my life in my hand to shower (a nice hand shower was available) in the tub because there was no mat and the tub was rounded and very slippery. Our room on the back was very quiet. Breakfast is excellent with a wide selection to suit many tastes. I loved all the jams. The coffee was as good as Starbucks. I eat a big breakfast and little lunch, so I loved this place.

Room Tip: Rooms not facing Banbury road are undoubtedly quieter. Banbury Rd. is not however, very noisy.

We stayed at the Galaxie Hotel for 5 nights in August. We loved the location in Summertown with its lovely little shops, the good selection of restaurants and the bicycle rental shop. It is a nice to be away from the downtown core and within walking distance to downtown Oxford (30 minutes) and on the bus route. The hotel room was modern, nicely decorated, clean and it had plenty of storage for our large suitcases and backpacks. The room was noisy, but the upside was that the windows opened. The breakfast food quality was good, but it was exactly the same every day. After five breakfasts - well you get the picture. The staff were friendly and helpful - they chilled our champagne for us to have on my husband's birthday.

Room was nice, breakfast ok but I got absolutely no sleep as the traffic noise was just so loud! It probably wasn't helped by the fact that the window didn't close completely. The hotel was full so I couldn't change room but was not impressed by the receptionists comment that I should have asked for a quiet room on my reservation - unfortunately not being psychic I wasn't aware that I'd have to ask a hotel for a room that didn't have so much noise I'd be awake all night!
