“don't book a double room”
Reviewed 4 July 2012

We had booked a double room. Perhaps we should have twigged that student accommodation with double beds is implausible. What we had was a single room, with a double campbed put into it--not comfortable and not suitable for the room. To fit it in, the furniture had been moved round, so there was a problem with space and electric points. There was a desk, and a desk light, but no power point close enough to use. There was an ethernet point... but next to the bed, so the only way to use the computer was sitting on the bed with the laptop on a bookshelf. The desk lamp couldn't be used as a bedside light because the flex wasn't long enough to reach from the book shelf to the power point. There was a coffee table (why oh why) that made it impossible to get out of bed without banging your shins. At night we had to put it across the door, which I'm sure was against the fire regulations. Because the weather was bad and our clothes got wet, we made the mistake of draping a pair of trousers over the curtain rail. Unfortunately that rail can;t have been cleaned for a many years and the trousers got badly stained. When we wiped the rail with loo paper it was jet black. The curtains were torn, the bathroom window was filthy, and the shower hardly drained.
The cost of the room was plenty enough to expect something rather better than this. Okay it's student accommodation out of term but what you have here is commercial rates being charged for a very substandard product. We won't be back.

“My favourite college”
Reviewed 20 April 2012

This building is not like any other in Oxford. The chapel is a must as it is truly unique. I attended the chapel in the evening and heard the choir and the organist which was a bonus.

“one of the best colleges”
Reviewed 17 February 2012

So different to the others - welcoming and beautiful in such a different way. The red brick architecture rewards you sitting and looking at it. Certainly worth the little walk north of the main town.
