Oxford Spires Hotel

Stayed for 2 nights over Easter weekend. Arrived early, but no problem checking in early. Room and bathroom exceptionally clean (slightly dark room but only because it was in an Annex which was an old building - so this is not a complaint just an observation). Food in the restaurant was delicious with a good choice, bar/lounge food was as it says on the tin "bar/lounge" food, but again perfectly adequate. Special mention must be made of all of the staff at this hotel - so friendly, professional, helpful and cheerful.

Did have a problem with the heating in the annexe but this was dealt with efficiently and again with good grace and we were also given a discount on our bill because of this (discount had not been asked for or even hinted at) - this gesture was much appreciated - more so because it had not been expected or asked for.

Short (15 min) walk to Oxford along river bank - which if the weather had been nicer would have been fun - but ideally situated for visits to Oxford or general sightseeing in that area.

Room Tip: (Didn't have breakfast but presume it would have been excellent!!!).

I stayed here with my daughter for one night. We had a lovely, sunny room on the ground floor looking out onto a field of horses which my daughter loved ! We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were very good. Short walk into Oxford along the river making it an ideal location for us. Would definitely recommend and stay at this hotel again.

Comfortable rooms and friendly staff, but restaurant service is particularly slow in the evenings. Hotel takes a bit of navigating inside especially if you are in one of the rooms out on a limb.

Have used the hotel for training and support is good, but some bureaucratic processes, e.g having to agree break times every day on a week- long course.

The gym is totally inadequate for such a large hotel - can't believe it is a membership gym.

We stayed here 2 years ago and on the same deal. i guess we must have been spoilt last time as for a family of four we were given a two bed-roomed room. However this time we were given what was a lovely double room but with 2 extra beds in and it was quite a squeeze for 4 people.
It was very good value though on the saver that they offered and I couldn't fault the breakfast or the staff. would definitely stay again on the same deal.

Excellent welcome, good room and the front of house staff are good, but the waiting staff need training. Three requests for coffee, incompletely laid tables, crowded buffet breakfast detract from what is otherwise a good hotel, easy parking and only half a mile o/s Oxford city. A pleasant walk along the river was a bonus

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the hotel are probably preferred, but there are three floors so be near a lift.

Don't bother booking here. Its meant to be a 4 star - nowhere near!! I stayed here on a conference. The bed was one of the worst I have ever slept in. The curtains are useless and let light in. Bathroom was not that clean. The food is absolutely awful. Breakfast was either undercooked or over cooked. Lunch was late and both days tasted awful. Not much choice on the menu either. Drinks in the bar a way overpriced. Even if you are here for a conference if you can book somewhere else to stay. Staff are pleasant enough but the hotel is not worth the prices charged.

Large hotel, 150 rooms plus, just off the Abingdon Rd south of Oxford. Went there on a conference and it works well. Handy for a walk along the river which is only a few mins behind the hotel. Rooms adequate although a bit noisy from the corridor. Plenty of car parking. 20 mins walk to town. Not a bad option to expensive city centre hotels. Lacks a bit of personality though.
