“A quiet haven close to the town centre”
Reviewed 8 July 2014

For a modern hotel this has been built to fit in so well with the blonde stone of Oxford and it's architectural style. Located just a ten or fifteen minute walk from St Aldate's, or a three or four minute bus ride, the hotel is quiet, peaceful and it beautiful grounds. Our room was very comfortable, although a little on the dark side with only an inset window, although this made very little difference to our overall impression. There was a very long walk to the room from reception, but that made very little difference. We stayed for two nights and ate at the hotel each night. For hotel food, the standard was really high and the meals inventive and enjoyable. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We enjoyed an excellent package of a two night stay with one dinner for £128 per night. We would definitely stay again.

Great location and plenty of parking, on a Friday afternoon, the staff were very friendly, room clean and welcoming. but was a bit warm on the Friday. night but the weather was hot..Great meal in the restaurant , Family had a swim. pool warm and clean. Mares and foal in the fields outside our window, and a family of Kestrels on the roof. Nice breakfast buffet style, lots to choose from. would use again ..

Room Tip: Not on the ground floor so you can open the windows

Just returned from an excellent stay at this hotel. We made good use of the facilities - pool, spa, restaurant etc, and only have one complaint - no air-con. The bedroom was so hot through out the stay, and we didn't want to leave the bedroom window open as we were on the ground floor. Very unusual for a modern(ish) hotel of this standard not to have climate control for the rooms. Other areas in the hotel were also very warm. Overall, we really enjoy the break. Staff all professional and friendly. We were part of a large family group, that included young children and grandparents, and we all said how great it was. Hotel is a 15 minute walk from Oxford along a canal path, so no need to fight the traffic either. Food was lovely and the Sunday lunch was great value for money. Will definitley be back. Our room was very spacious and we managed to park the car right outside the room - load of parking spaces during our stay.

Room Tip: Large hotel - ask for close to reception if you need to avoid walking to far and / or higher room if...

This hotel solves so many problems when coming to Oxford, a place we love to visit. No issues with car parking, clean, tidy and relatively inexpensive for a long weekend. We love to walk the tow path alongside the river watching all the activity of the various forms of water transport as we head towards the city centre. Having been before we opted for the same room previously used which we are never disappointed in. If we had a criticism it would be the lack of air conditioning. The food in the restaurant, whether breakfast or dinner, was superb and the complaint we made, of late arrival of food, was handled with care and professionalism. Hotel staff are always courteous and helpful. Whenever we visit Oxford we will always head for the Four Pillars !

Room Tip: Upgrade to a connoisseur room

Great location at a reasonable price, complimentary parking, free wifi in the lobby. Walk into the center of Oxford or take the bus nearby.
Country setting of the hotel is charming. Friendly and helpful staff., excellent breakfast buffet.
Will stay here again. Only drawback is that we were upgraded to the separate Eastwycke building, which gave us a large room with snacks and wine but we had to carry luggage up the stairs, and it isn't convenient when there's rain to then walk to the main hotel for breakfast.

I can't be as fulsome about this hotel as other reviewers. I stayed here on business for three nights and found it a perfectly functional business hotel if a bit spartan in terms of room decoration. It's in an uninspiring modern building located a couple of miles outside Oxford city centre but in a nice setting. My room had a balcony which was a pleasant place to sit on a hot evening, although the view of the car park could have been nicer. I didn't eat here for dinner but breakfast was pretty ordinary. The big downside though was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms - mine became like a greenhouse from 7am in the morning. So for me, it was functional and that was about it.

Booked one of the packages including a 3 course meal and was very impressed. The hotel is in a great location with free parking and just a 15 minute stroll along the river into the centre of Oxford. Three course evening meal offered lots of choice and the qualiy of both food and service was good. The leaisure club is small and compact but the pool and whirlpool bath were very clean and the staff friendly (remember to take a £1.00 coin for the lockers). Bedroom was clean and tidy with a nice view over fields. No aircon but window opened and created nice breeze. Breakfast excellent - good choice and well cooked. Free WiFi worked fine in communal areas and within bedroom.
