“Brilliant weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

I spent a lovely weekend here with three friends in June. The bedrooms in Eastwyke House were super luxurious with an enormous bath and shower and lovely Clarins toiletries. We enjoyed using the good sized pool and all had a manicure in the spa. One of my friends uses a mobility scooter and the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating.
We had a super meal in the restaurant on Saturday evening and breakfast was a real highlight; it is very unusual to find a buffet breakfast of such a high standard. All of the cooked options were fresh and there was a lot of choice. We will definitely be returning to this lovely hotel.

As soon as you drive up the to the main entrance to the hotel, you realize you've arrived at someplace different to stay. Lovely grounds with different buildings scattered off from the main entrance. We were a group of friends meeting up for the weekend and were given the Eastwyke House as our accommodations. We each had our own room with wonderful old fashion beams and lots of character. My room was gorgeous with the bath centered in the middle of the room....not practical for taking a shower and washing your hair, but lovely to sit and soak and look out the window and the gardens. I was on the 2nd floor which had many scenic views from all three of the windows in my room.
This hotels location is within walking distance of the river, shops, restaurants and the tour buses. I wish we had more time in this area as you could see there was so much to see and do....will definitely be back to the Oxford Spires for a longer stay to explore and enjoy more of this lovely hotel.

A splendid dinner of Thai green curry from the bar snack menu. Eaten outside in the rear garden. However, although this crucial element of Maslow's hierarchy of needs was well attended to that latest and equally essential addition to modern needs was not. Meaning, no Wi-Fi in our room!!! I popped along to the busy reception (no answer when calling from room) and asked about this. Helpful promises to investigate did not resolve the problem. Consequently I cannot recommend room 36 of this hotel.
The room was spacious if a little old fashioned in decor. It was very comfortable. No Air-con, which I realise is only important for about two weeks of the whole year in England. The helpful receptionist offered a fan without any prompting and it arrived within ten minutes. It was pretty effective but not as effective as air con
Shower good/ strong. No fridge in room. Gardens lovely. Swimming pool quite small - push off and glide to other side plus a couple of strokes size - but good enough (I am guessing 15 meter).Of course hotel is almost opposite Hinksey outdoor pool.
Service excellent from all the staff I came in contact with from bar staff, receptionists, leisure attendants to house staff.
I was interested to read in reception a policy for the care of sole female travellers.
I thought that was a good initiative.
Unfortunately did not have great night's sleep. The pillow was hard and like a dope didn't think to look in the wardrobe for a softer one until the early hours. The bed was ok but not the best I have slept in. Most annoying is the slamming of room doors, I guess they are all on springs but they are really loud. This means when the early risers are up so is everyone else, except I guess the heaviest of sleepers.
This hotel has a lovely setting. The reason I am unlikely to return is sleep quality.
Buses from the station include X3, x13, 13.

Room Tip: Not room 36 if you want wi-fi but otherwise spacious room at back of hotel, quiet and looks onto gra...

Visiting the hotel for a day conference, I enjoyed a first class breakfast in the restaurant for £9.99, which compared very well with prices in similar establishments I have visited. there was a large choice, and despite being a buffet, the food did not appear to have been drying out under powerful lights for a long time. Service was prompt and efficient.

The conference room was well lit and cool, with good AV provision. Delegates were able to sit at tables, a refreshing change from the usual conference layout. the buffet lunch was reasonable, with a wide choice of items.

The hotel lies about a mile from one of the southern junctions on the A34 Oxford bypass, so is easy to find, and has ample parking.

Staying here RIGHT NOW. Writing because I cannot sleep, despite a sleeping pill. Basically killing time until I can get out of here. This place is like an oven. They've built it out of a Sandstone or something. It collects the heat during the day and keeps it warm inside even if it cools off outside. There is no A/C, no fan, and the windows only crack open a bit. There is no airflow whatsoever. While I can't blame them for the weather or this oppressive heat, this being one of the more modern hotels, this lack of basic comfort amenities is a shame. It's a good location, pretty, clean, but if you can't sleep... all that doesn't matter. Also, the sound travels easily from room to room, I know when my neighbors get up to pee... I'm gonna have a crappy day tomorrow. They have free WiFi, not yet a common standard in the UK, so that's good. If you're not coming here in hot weather, you'll be fine, but avoid it when the sun is out.

Room Tip: Rooms are nice, just too hot.

This hotel is stuck in the 1980's. It seems little effort has been made to keep it competitive with similar hotels, as if their setting and external appearance are sufficient to warrant the high prices charged.

Yes, on the outside this appears to be a lovely place. It is also kept very clean and tidy in all the main internal and external areas. However, beyond that initial impression everything reminds me of an old fashioned average English hotel from decades past.

The rooms have no air conditioning. I had the problem also of having one of the many rooms overlooking the outside bar area, so having to keep windows open wide to avoid melting I was prevented from sleeping due to the noise. In fact, sound insulation is generally poor here.

Beds, pillows, bathroom fittings / facilities are all so old fashioned and ordinary. What a let down from the initial external impression! This place could be genuinely high standard but it needs both a physical update inside and also an attitudinal update from those responsible for its business strategy.

Don't be fooled by the external impression and the pictures!

Room Tip: Avoid the noisy rooms overlooking the bar garden area.

We enjoyed a weekend break in a Chic Twin room. The hotel is approximately a 10-15 min walk into the town of Oxford which was pleasant to do,despite the mixed weather in May. It is set back from the main road, in a rural setting, complete with a view of horses grazing in the fields.
The staff were very pleasant and the room was spacious. We booked the dining experience weekend, where one meal was taken in the hotel and the other at the Living Room, within Oxford Castle. My only 'gripe' would be over the 3 course hotel meal being exclusive of tea/coffee at the end. When I have stayed elsewhere, either overnight or on a half board basis, I have always found that the coffees were included with the meal. If we had been staying a week here we would have easily racked up a bill of £50+ just for coffees! The dinners were very tasty, if a little short on the vegetable portions and, with the lack of coffee included, smacked a little of cost cutting. I would like Four Pillars to reconsider offering a fully inclusive dinner in future.
