“Beware extortionate cancellation charges”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2012

Booking was cancelled for a colleague after I inspected the room in advance of his stay. I had to vist the hotel twice and was put off twice. On the first visit I said the room was not acceptable because of noise - the room overlooked the beer garrden of an adjacent pub and a better room was promised. This was then withdrawn and another room suggested which was also considered unsuitable. Then a short notice cancelation charge of £125 ! was levied plus a £50 charge for all of 3 subsequent nights. You have been warned.

Room Tip: Don't book here.

We had 2 nights here this weekend and found it to be right in the heart of the older part of Oxford. It was built in the 1700,s so you don,t expect to have all the modern amenities, but it was really lovely. Comfy room with shower , creaky floor boards , tv ,wifi, tea and coffee, fridge. Limited wardrobe space but not a problem. Good continental breakfast .just a minute away from Broad street, close to the colleges and parks. Perfect spot.

Room Tip: Be careful about rooms overlooking the pub garden next door but all went quiet after closing and we...

We stayed here for two nights whilst exploring Oxford. The best things about this hotel was its location, absolutely perfect, close to all attractions, restaurants and pubs, but in a quiet street all the same. The carpark was a good walk away which we did not mind - but think of this if it rains and do not wear high heels you cannot walk in. We were however, very disappointed with the room, the size of it, the bathroom seat was broken, no stand up shower - you had to sit in the bath to shower. Had it been a lot cheaper than £120 per night this may have been partly acceptable. Breakfast, we have been many places but have never seen anything this poor - we decided to eat out every day rather than having tinned fruit, ham slices and brown bananas. To top it all off, you had to pay £5 for a an egg for breakfast. Service was also very poor, apart from the Australian girl who at least could offer us a smile and good directions.

Weekending in Oxford. Very good location right in city centre, accessed by pretty cobbled lane. What a shock when you enter the hotel to find it has morphed into a seventies nightmare! We appreciate that you pay a premium for city centre location but at the price paid we would expect the rooms to be of an acceptable standard and these were in need of considerable updating. Come on guys you have a potential gem here guve it a break!

for GBP135 per night.. you would expect a nice room with features expected for over $210.. per night.. had a cracker box noisy room with DIY remodeling.. service at the desk seemed to be more "I'm doing you a favor" worst hoteliers I've ever experienced. Breakfast was poor man's continental..

Save your money.. and look at other locations..

then to make matters worse.. slipped in a charge a week for more than my original stay.. Contesting it is a understatement.. if there was a minus rating it would be well deserved..

Room Tip: Go look at other locations.. anywhere than here..

Although small the hotel is in a fab location, complimentary parking, though we would have been happy to pay the £10 per day for the car to be nearer. Rooms small and comfy. We stayed in room 6 over looking the Turf Tavern, a little noisy, but after many beers we did not notice too much.

If this hotel was good enough for Burton & Taylor - good enough for me!

Will be back very soon, only we might try a downstairs room.

For the cost, we expected much nicer. The room was tiny (three people in a very small, cramped space) and in disrepair. There were cracks in the paint and the bed frame, and numerous spots on the wall that needed to be repainted. The stairwell to get to the room was small, narrow, and very low ceilinged. Evn the shortest member of our party had trouble with this.

The breakfast in the morning was possibly the worst continental breakfast I have ever had. There was very little selection, and the milk was not cold. We were expected to know how to use a very complicated tea machine with no assistance. The food itself was not particularly good; the croissants were bland and the toast was crushed flat.

The hotels only redeeming qualit is its superb location. Great access to seeing all the colleges and the library, and very close to a selection of restaurants and shops. Otherwise, definitely not worth the expense.
