My friend and I booked this hotel several months in advance for a 2 night stay , on 6th and 14 th Sept. We were checked it to a room which on entry smelt of fresh paint and another smell we couldn't quite identify . After being in the room for a short while with the windows open we thought it had gone . However during the night we both woke up with migraine type headaches. The next morning we complained and was told we should have asked to change rooms. I answered that we shouldn't of had to, as the hotel should not have put us in the room if they were aware it was a problem . (it transpired that they were aware, as we later saw on reviews on this site.) The hotel was very quiet so other rooms should have been available From outside on the roof and on the ceiling inside , it appeared as though they had had a fairly recent problem with damp. We also were very disappointed with the service at dinner . At breakfast , staff were slow and disinterested and the food under cooked .
As we were so unhappy we cancelled on 2nd night stay . We were promised contact via email from the manger by receptionist , as the receptionist said he had no authority to do anything regarding our stay. It is now a week later and the promised contact never happened . Overpriced unsatisfactory disappointing

Lovely place, lovely location.
We went for our 10th wedding anniversary and would definately love to visit again. We got a great price on a four poster room (number 3) and it was beautifully and tastefully decorated. We had our own balcony which spanned the width of the room with lovely views of the garden and woods beyond. The service by the staff even though it was a quiet spell was wonderful. Jamie was superb from the outset and very approachable. He was very forthcoming with information and there wasn't enough he could do to make our stay more enjoyable.
We opted for dinner at the hotel and were not disaapointed. The food was like that of a five star restaurant. Breakfast was also a great experience and the staff most accomodating. I am not usually so keen to sing anywhere's praises but i had high hopes for our anniversary and was not let down. The only thing was the bed was too small but comfortable nonetheless!! Also the restaurant decor is a bit tired looking but this didn't compromise the quality of the food. Oxford town centre was a 7-10 min drive away.
Thank you to the staff and partcularly Jamie for making our stay in this lovely hotel worthwhile.

Room Tip: Room 3 has a four poster bed, candles in the fireplace, a large balcony seating area and plasma TV.

DO NOT stay at this hotel!! Even if it is on a very special offer, avoid staying here. I could go on forever about poor service but lovely location BUT everyone pays for a good nights sleep and you don't get that here!! We were shown three family rooms - all ok apart from two had beds with mattresses that were fit for the tip and the other room had been newly decorated so stunk of paint and couldn't stay there with the strong odorous for 2 nights. The bed was better in there so maybe refurbished rooms have got better ones, though still not great. We ended up leaving our luggage for the hotel to sort another room and we went into Oxford. We arrived back after 9pm and were shown our room( the third one we'd seen at this point) and again bed was horrendous so we were moved to another room ( which was only offered after I complained and kept my ground) and at least the mattress in that room didn't collapse into the base and the springs connect top to bottom!! However, we never slept much!! The double bed as sooo hard and you could feel every metal spring - no padding- as well as being about 5 inches too short in length for my husband; my daughter cried as she was so uncomfortable - we ended up using the spare duvet to cover her mattress to provide some padding. As soon as we could the next day we checked out and refused to stay another night as pain and sleep deprivation ruins a holiday. The only saving grace wS the hotel agreed not to charge me - so let's hope that's honoured - and we were left to find other accommodation so to guarantee a night of rest. We have never slept in such a horrendous place for bad beds!! DO NOT stay here if you want to sleep.

We attended a beautiful wedding in this hotel and had booked the four pillar room with private balcony. At first I was happily surprised about the size of the room and the modern look of the bathroom. The bathroom weren't completely clean though and there was nearly no water coming from the shower!! A real horror when trying to get ready for a wedding! During our entire stay the water was nearly absent in the shower and if u wanted reasobly hot water the water disappeared!! Not okay for such an expensive hotel room. The entire weekend we were there we were extremely unlucky with the staff. That is when there was any staff to be found.. Anywhere at all. There was nobody in the reception, nobody in the bar and nobody anywhere else. One young guy working in the reception were firstly not very often around, secondly very lazy and non serviceminded. At one point we booked a taxi and was told it would take 5 minutes but we waited nearly an hour and it was not until I went out to ask for it, that it funnily showed up 5 min later, he had obviously forgotten to book it. Same way he couldn't give us a business card of the hotel and told me they didn't have any businescards even though I had seen them the day before. Then he didn't bother to write down the address to the hotel for us to tell taxi drivers but just gave us a taxi number we could call when we wanted to go back from Oxford town which makes no sense as we're tourists and have foreign phones. He also forgot to hand over my boyfriends two set of suits when leaving the hotel and then in the phone telling us they didn't have the suits. It's simply just really bad service from this one guy all way through!! Ohh yeah and at breakfast they served moulded bread!! When we asked for some new bread it never came. We had to ask for it again but then we were done with the breakfast, and no excuse were giving for serving BLUE Moulded bread! One positive thing about the stay is the garden that is fantastic with chickens, flowers and bunnies. And another is the four pillar bed which is fantastic. My recommendation to this hotel is to quit the people who seems to not be interested in working there, give the rest some education in service, get the water fixed and use the surroundings better and make it an organic hotel.

recently returned from the westwood and to be honest wasn't that impressed, yes they had a burst mains on the road so no water, not their fault, but after travelling from devon to oxford we were expecting to freshen up, so yes i was disappointed to hear we couldn't, we decided to go out for a walk and on return 6.15 ish, we asked about the water and were told the water had come on at 3pm, funny because we left hotel for walk 4pm ish and told there was still no water, please get story straight! so then we were informed there wasn't any water in another room on our floor, so would we like to check and see if we had any in our room, which i'm sure they could have done this while we were out, no we didn't have any water, then they said we could use another room upstairs to shower in, getting a bit like faulty towers me thinks! so we stay in our room and shower in a room upstairs, so while they checked to see if it had water we were offered a complimentary tea and coffee, at 6.45 went downstairs again, still waiting and a little steamed up, asked at reception about new room, 20 mins to walk upstairs and turn a tap on is a bit of a joke, yes they had another premier room, well it was actually nicer than the premier room we'd received in the first place, other than the noise from an extractor fan and the fact it was stifling hot which wasn't helped by the fact there was a radiator on in the bathroom, the staff were all very nice, the hotel building not as impressive in the flesh, the full english breakfast, the bacon, sausage, hash brown dehydrated, orange juice warm, ambiance in dining room a big fat nil point! and whats this practice of putting an extra £50 on my card when we arrive and then deduct it when you leave , just because i don't wear prada doesn't make me dodgy!! not happy with that practice!! the hotel is placed near south hinksey which is a very small village which has a walkway through countryside, over a railway bridge, through south hinksey park which is lovely, onto abingdon road and into the centre of oxford.

Room Tip: room 12 is nice , over looking the roof, a little noisy, bed very comfortable. room 2 nice over look...

We hired The Westwood Hotel as our wedding reception venue in June. The day was perfect and everything went without a hitch. The staff were really helpful on the day and in the running up to the wedding, we could not have asked for more. Drew the hotel manager went above and beyond to help make our day perfect for us.

The food for the Wedding Breakfast was of a very high standard - if you can, make sure you take up the taster session. The wine was also great and the bar was well staffed. We had so much fun in the evening and all our guests who stayed the night have commented to us how much they enjoyed their stay.

If you are looking for a wedding venue which; offers a personal service, beautiful grounds for those all important pictures, friendly and helpful staff and an intimate vibe to the day no matter what size your party (I think up to 120 for wedding breakfast and 200 for evening/disco) then The Westwood is defintely what you are looking for.

Hotel is in an excellent position for Oxford and surrounding areas, ideally situated near to the park and ride schemes for Oxford City Centre. The local area is easily accesible also with the M40 only a few minutes away. I had booked a twin room for myself and my 16 yr old daughter and was disappointed that on arrival after checking in, although our room was lovely it was quite clearly a double room. I was informed that there were no twin rooms available, no explanation was offered by the receptionist who was very unhelpful throughout our 4 days. A useful tip might be to phone ahead and double check! I had printed confirmation of my booking however. Didnt find any of the staff particularly friendly or helpful during our stay especially when having been in our room for about 10 minutes the door handle fell off! This could not be fixed until the next day, the receptiinist again was very offhand about this and we were left feeling a bit insecure about the whole thing.

Room Tip: Definetly do a price comparison search before booking, the rooms are very nice and have lovely bathr...
