“What a turn around!”
Reviewed 8 December 2011

Having stayed at this hotel a couple of years back I was reluctant to return after such a bad experience. However, based on some of the comments on Trip Advisor and the classy Hotel website we decided to give it another shot. What a turnaround!

The hotel has obviously had some serious work done, not just in terms of fixtures and fittings but the place has a much more fresh and welcoming feel, complimented by the friendly, knowledgable staff.

The food and drinks offering has been worked on also. Its certainly not michelin star, but there is a time and a place for that rubbish anyway. This is knowledgably cooked food that is done with care and attention, and a focus on good quality produce. The wine list is good and accessible for any customer, although I would have liked to have seen more wines by the glass so I could match up with my meal. When I mentioned this to our server, he said he would be happy to open any wine bottle for us to try. Now thats going the extra mile.

Overall a most enjoyable experience and a great base for us to visit family in the surrounding areas. Oxford is beautiful.

Well done to the team who turned this around. We will be back.

A nice enough hotel just off the A34 which we stayed at for a Christmas get together. We originally checked into Room 2 (which was very nice and had a great view of the garden) but decided to move to Room 6 because it had a bigger bed. Room 6 was a big room in the eaves of the property and overlooked the car park. It has a bath with an overhead shower with limited pressure which we found very hard to get to the correct temperature. Unfortunately our radiator was stuck on full blast despite the best efforts of the staff to try and sort it out.

The venue was very clean and looked well maintained (contrary to some of the other reviews).

Staff were very friendly, gardens were very nice and I'm sure it would be great venue for a small wedding or corporate event.

I have posted a few pictures of Room 6 and one of the front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are very nice if you don't might a standard 4'6" bed.

We had our Christmas work do at the Westwood. It was absolutely fabulous. The staff were wonderful and the setting was magical. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were treated like VIPs. The food was excellent, and the table was laid out beautifully. Well done Westwood Hotel we shall definitely be coming back!

very disappointed with the evening menu nothing like the one one web site. Daily special menu was the same each day; why bother calling it special just add it to the ordinary menu !!

Room Tip: room overlooking garden not the car park

Having stayed at this hotel nearly two years ago and having thoroughly enjoyed it, we returned for a couple of days break to explore more of the area. We were given a warm welcome by a friendly chap on reception, and given assistance with our luggage to our bedroom.

We had a long train journey, so we freshened up and returned downstairs where afternoon tea was waiting for us on the terrace as we requested. We are great fans of our afternoon tea, and this was one of the best!! Delicious Sandwiches, Fresh Scones with whipped cream and Strawberries.

We had dinner in the hotel both nights of our stay, and the food was exceptional. It appears to be all freshly prepared and the presentation is fantastic. The portions were good and we certainly didn't leave hungry. The menu is very well priced. We enjoy a bottle of wine with our meal and this hotel has a good selection to choose from, after dinner we relaxed with a coffee in the bar area, and of course a couple of drinks.

Our room overlooked the huge garden, just along the corridor from where we were on our previous visit, it was fantasticly decorated, it had a flatscren TV and was well appointed. The room was very clean and the mattress gave a great night sleep, which was good as I don't sleep well at the best of times. The bathroom was modern and clean with plenty of hot water, and it had a great shower!!

We went down for breakfast just as the restaurant was closing but this was not an issue for the lady that served us, she quickly set a table for us by the window, we were allowed to help ourselves to the buffet and received a freshly cooked breakfast which set us up for the day. Even though we were late the breakfast lady was very friendly and we were not rushed at all.

As I said we have stayed at this hotel before and there seems to be many new staff since our last visit, and all are very friendly and helpful, but we were really surprised that the General Manager remembered us from our last stay!! Such a great guy, and he really made us welcome and has obviously made so many positive changes since we stayed there last. We were very surprised as he must see so many people, however it just shows that people really do matter here.

As for the area, we were out most of the day in the centre of Oxford, such a lot to see and do, it is a great city and we will return some day soon I hope, and of course stay at the Westwood Hotel, I look forward to seeing some more improvements.

Many thanks to everyone for such a great stay - we look forward to visiting again soon!!

My partner and myself came to Oxford for a relaxing weekend away. We choose The Westwood Hotel based on the many positive reviews on this site. I have to say that we were not disappointed.

Everything was just brilliant. Check in went fast and smooth, we were then taken to our room, a lovely spacious one with our own private terrace, where we could start the unwinding with a much needed cup of Earl Grey.

We went out into the city centre, which is very convenient to get to, and stayed out all night. The next morning we went down to breakfast which was very tasty and just what was needed after a night out!

We decided to stay in the hotel to watch the football in the lounge. We decided to try the hotel's restaurant after giving their menu a quick read through. We both enjoyed our meals and found the food to have a real home cooked , hearty taste. The portions were very generous as well!

We came to Oxford with the intention of unwinding and relaxing. The Westwood Hotel did not disappoint! Being so close to the city centre, it takes the fuss out of trying to get into the centre. We chose to use the park and ride which is only about a 2-3 minute drive from the hotel.

I would most defintiely recommend The Westwood Hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing weekend away or an excellent base with which to explore Oxford with.

Room Tip: Room 23 is very spacious and has its own private terrace!
