“Comfortable and good value but a long way from the city centre”
Reviewed 22 February 2011

The hotel is in a quiet location and offers excellent value when compared with hotels in Oxford city centre so it's a good option if you don't mind commuting the 5 miles to town and back each day. It's situated right next to Oxford United FC's Kassam Stadium and has its own car park. If you don't have a car getting around takes a bit of effort. The Oxford Bus Company and Stagecoach have good services into town that run about every 10 minutes. You can get a weekly travel card on either for 13GBP. The nearest bus stop is however 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel through a residential estate and then the bus ride takes about half an hour. The buffet breakfast was very nice, although the only cooked option appears to be scrambled eggs and sausages. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant but the cinema/bowling complex at the other side of the stadium has a few restaurants attached to it, including Indian, Chinese and Frankie & Bennys. The Indian one offers a discount to hotel guests. The hotel room was comfortable, the only slight problem I had was keeping the heating and ventilation at a satisfactory level. Other than that nothing was any bother and there were no disturbances.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your comments. We have arranged a fixed price taxi rate of £10 into the centre and we expect that a new bus stop will be located directly outside the hotel from June 2011.

Kind regards

This Holiday Inn Express offered a very quiet and peaceful location with quick access to Oxford. Our room was very nice with twin beds that were comfortable. Everything in the room was neat and clean. No complaints but the heating system was a bit insufficient and we should have asked for additional blankets. Regardless, we would stay here again, for sure.

Hotel was clean and rooms nice and roomy and for a cheap hotel it was fine, but the staff were very rude and unfriendly manners cost nothing and I think in any hotel if your in the front line the least you could do is be polite!

If you want a city location, and you don't have a car, look elsewhere. The hotel is way outside Oxford itself, and it's circular ring road. It may be a budget hotel, but you will need to factor in taxi rides to and from the centre - around £10 - £12 pounds each way.
There is a bus service from the nearby Blackbird Leys estate, but not ideal in the evenings.
The hotel itself is clean, modern, with nice rooms, and with a perfectly acceptable continental breakfast included in the rate. (I would avoid the rather tired scrambled eggs and sausages). Personally I did not experience any noise as noted by previous reviewers, the staff were helpful and efficient, plenty of car parking spaces, and all in all, it's a good value hotel.

The Staff were very welcoming and helpful at all times. The rooms were to a high standard and spotlessly clean and comfortable as was the bed.

Even though we stayed at the week-end it was still very quite. We were able to walk to the leisure centre (10 mins) on Saturday evening and had a very enjoyable stay.

As we have come to expect Holiday Inn Express always 'does what it says on the tin'. Comfortable, clean accommodation with a free breakfast.
As it is next to the football stadium I would imagine it may be noisy on match days but midweek it was extremely quiet. The location, though not ideal, is not a problem. The local buses stop 5 minutes walk from the hotel, hourly, and 10 minutes walk from the hotel very frequently, about every 8 minutes. The bus stop further away is maybe not a good idea for evening returns, especially not for lone females. If you have a car there is absolutely no problem as there is a 'Park & Ride' a short drive away running into the City Centre every 10 minutes - this is definitely the best option.
The reception staff were very helpful with local information.

Located out of town by the Kassam Stadium, so easy to find. And location is obvious from all booking sites.

Staff very friendly and helpful.

Major drawback is the fact the only aircon is in reception, no fans in the rooms, and the window only opens half a hairs breadth! If they must do this, design the building so it doesn't get so hot!!! Almost too hot to sleep, and young baby doesn't like being that hot...

Free breakfast was good (it was free!) sausages egg, toast, pastries, jam etc cereal youghurt juices tea coffee machine.

And from room 329 you can see almost the whole pitch - shame it wasn't match day

How come since smoking is not legal in hotel rooms (and hasn't been for some time) budget hotel rooms still smell of smoke? Do Holiday Inn express/Premier Inn deliberately spray the rooms with smoky air freshenher to remind you of the olden days...?

Dear Guest

Thank you for your comments. it is very pleasing to receive good feedback about our staff. I am sorry that your room was smokey. Unfortunately a very small minority of guests still smoke in hotel rooms despite the law change. We charge extra but some people still persist; I would say that it is getting much better
