The room I stayed was very clean and the location of the hostel was very close to the railway station. However, there were other travellers having drinks in the courtyard downstairs, next to the bar, and they were yelling and screaming. We made a complaint to the receptionist but he did nothing and said its not his fault. My family and I were woken up at 3am and could not get back to sleep till 4.30am. Its either very hot in the room if you keep the windows closed or very noisy outside if you keep them opened.

Well the good thing about this place was the central location in Oxford. However, having stayed in a room with the train station directly behind, it was quite noisy day and night. The staff seem generally confused and somewhat incompetent. My questions were frequently met with blank stares. The cost of a single room with a shared bathroom is actually slightly high considering the bare minimum you receive.

I stayed at this hostel with a group of friends in a small dorm room. The hostel was modern and clean with good facilities, although perhaps a little more expensive than other, similar hostels. The breakfast was good but I did feel that the hostel lacked a little atmosphere. The hostel is centrally located with parking nearby.

We stayed here for 4 nights in May. There were also 2 large school groups, but they honestly were not a problem compared to some adults we encountered on other parts of our 3 week trip. Our timing was bad the first morning at breakfast, arriving right after one school group. But the breakfast line moved quickly, and juices were restocked when we asked. There was a separate table away from the group that we ate at. Yes, the group was noisey, but they were not a problem for us. They went to bed timely. In fact, very few people were using the kitchen, and I think that was because most people staying there were school kids.

The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Another guest reported that a staff member carried her suitcase to her room for her. A hair dryer was available at no charge with a 5 pound deposit.

I loved the location. We used it as home base to make 2 day trips from Oxford. It was the ultimate in convenient next to the train station.

Like another reviewer stated, the price was a bit high. I paid it anyway because we wanted to make day trips by train.

After the kids went to bed at night, the rooms were quiet. We were facing the train tracks but could not hear trains unless the windows were open.

Overall, because of the location, the ease of breakfast, and helpfulness of the staff, this was my favorite YHA of the 3 we used for holiday in May.

Being a YHA member I tend to utilise the Hostels as they generally prove to be excellent value for money and very pleasant places to stay.
This one in Oxford is very conveniently situated by taking in the fact the room cost £86 for the night, but you have no TV, towels, parking facilities or any comforts at all you have to question the price. (It cost us an additional £13 to park the car on the Park & Ride and get the bus).
The staff were very helpful to say the least and the rooms although very tired looking was clean.
The reception area and lounge was far too small for the number of guests. When we arrived back at 9pm from being out in Oxford, we bought some drinks but had no where to sit and had to take them to our room, but having no TV etc.. took the edge of any enjoyment.
Breakfast also proved to be uncomfortable as the dining room was packed with overseas students crammed in to tables where there was simply not enough room to move and could not enjoy eating.
So the next time we visit Oxford I unfortunately will try booking into somewhere else as £86 was a bridge too far for this experience.

I stayed in a four-bed dorm at this YHA for one night. It is good value (in comparison to the hotels in the area) and ideally placed next to the train station, unfortunately there is no parking though.

The room was very basic, as expected, but the bunk beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean.

The bar was open until late, and there was a welcoming area to sit down and relax. The staff were nice, and it was good to be able to store our luggage securely, before we checked-in.

This is definitely a budget option, but well located and has a nice feel about it.

I spent two nights here in a female dorm. My positives were:
- cheap food and great coffee from the cafe/bar
- decent sized locker for belongings
- comfy bunk bed
- comfortable places to hang out like the reception, lounge and kitchen
- very close to the train station but didn't really hear the train in the room

Negatives were:
- poor water pressure in the shower - it was a really cold day and I was longing for a steaming hot waterfall of a shower, but got a paltry lukewarm trickle instead
- the toilet/bathroom was in the dorm room which meant I felt bad when flushing the toilet during the night in case I woke people up
