“good for location ...”
Reviewed 29 May 2014

When we arrive at the hotel, the lobby is not big enough to accommodate me with 51 person... The receptionist is nice and really help.. but the policy of the room key is quite annoying.. we have to pay 5 pound if losing the key.... the bedroom so so... the bed itself so so.... the breakfast average ... the best thing of this YHA is the location ....

We had the worst nights sleep we've ever had here. We were woken up early in the morning by the partying, loud rows, racial chanting and constant banging by the group of men in the next room. After a couple of hours we gave up, packed our bags and left.
The walls are paper thin. There is only one member of staff on at night so I don't suppose they can stop anyone coming in. We did complain but the staff didn't look surprised so I wonder if this is a regular occurrence.
Never again.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else it's pot luck who's next door to you.

Overall, this is a perfectly adequate hostel. It is centrally located. The staff is really helpful and very nice. I found it to be quite clean. However, the place is loud! The windows are cheap and there is a local bar with a party scene. It doesn't really seem to dim the noise to close the windows. You will also hear anyone talking in the hallway in the morning (and people really do talk a lot--I think maybe dimming the lights until 8am or something might remind people to keep their voices down, but people rushing for a reservation often yell down the hallway). Also, the mattresses were very uncomfortable.

Room Tip: If you can, get away from the street. It overlooks a loud bar.

Thank you for your review of the hostel. We're really sorry to hear that you found the room noisy during your stay. It's rare that the local bars this side of the train station get very busy or noisy - the party scene is back on Park End Street and it's unusual that we ever hear any noise from our local pub.
Thanks for your suggestions on how to get guests to be quieter on the corridors in the mornings - we'll put our thinking caps on as to the best way to improve this.
Mattresses as well, we'll keep on checking them and replacing any that have become uncomfortable.

Abandon all hope ye who entre this place.

If you want to sleep, look else where... The beds are terrible, uncomfortable and for you germofobes ever night Ive stayed here the beding, toilet and general room are all dirty. For some bizzarre reason the window was open, everything was unplugged and the beds aren't made.

Don't be fooled by any nice pictures you see (especially the one used on this website) the only tolerable place to be is reception where terrible cover artists play good songs, Sky news is on a constant loop - with no sound, the reception desk is awkward and imposing - very unapproachable.

Night's sleep is awfull, the rooms easily get cold and are VERY hard to warm, the noise throughout the night is so dreadfull its hard to imagine worse - trains passing what it seems like every half an hour which you can also feel. The location may be praised as easily accessable or a short distance from the 'iconic centre', this is true exept there is a minimum fee of £60 and a few points on your liscence courtesy of the local council as there is NO parking available for non-residents. Getting to the centre requires you to have the geneus of a student here as there is an impossible combination busses to get somewhere that it would quick to walk to but thanks to the idiotic road layout and traffic light systems it is extremely hard. No map does it justice.

The building is literaly on a tiny island of concrete with a very busy main road on one side and a freight train line the other side.

Everything feels dirty, like nothing's really been cleaned since the place first opened.

Stayed here whilst attending an event at the University. Hiring a 4 bed room for myself was cheaper than going to a hotel. Glad I did: the hostel is friendly and very good value. The window did not shut properly in my room but that was a minor problem. The greater issue was the noise: not from fellow hostellers but from the railway and station next door. Actually, this is an ungrateful criticism since it was proximity to the station that led me to choose the hostel in the first place (I had to catch an early train the next morning). But it could be an issue if you, unlike me, have little reason to be up in the early hours.

Quite good. I think that the price for a single bottle of water (a half a litre one) is too expansive, and that's a very bad thing. The room where we slept is nice, the bathroom is small but quite comfortable for having a quick shower. The staff is amazing: really nice, professional and easy going guys. The price for a week is fine, neither expansive, nor cheap. The thing I mostly appriciated is the place where the hostel is situated: near the railway, not so far from the centre of Oxford and near the bus station, too.

Stayed for one night , couldnt wait to leave the room as there was mould on the windows and in the shower which made me feel quite ill , my friends reported their rooms were fine so I obviously got a bad room. Communal areas nice and comfortable , lost of comfortable places to sit and chat , even a study we could have a meeting in. Breakfast was good and plentiful , good value. Would not go back due to poor quality of room and shower , theres really no excuse for mould and damp
