Not a bad deal booked online. You get what you pay for. Location was 5 Star. The parking deal was 5 Star. The staff were 5 Star. Decorating was on-going. The average rating given is solely due to the room being 'adequate', but it's only a place to lay your head for a few hours and the power shower was a blast. Will be back to lovely Oxford.

Room Tip: Get what you can and enjoy the LOCATION

Stayed for 4 nights at Victoria House, right in the city centre. The place is rather old and this place is nothing for couples or people with demands. No elavator, tiny steep stairs, not very easy with kids. Smoking alarm went on twice while I was there. Staff is friendly. Next to the door is night club but you can't here on the third floor. Wifi works fine, bathroom was narrow.

Room Tip: Go to the topfloor and to the streetside, there is the least noice.

I stayed here for one night mid-week as I was visiting Oxford for a course.

The best thing is the location, it is very central and within easy reach of local amenities.

But please do not stay here just because it is centrally located. The entrance and hallways were dirty. The staff weren't rude but they didn't make me feel welcome. The room was small, dirty, unsecure and dangerous. The bed did not have a mattress protector and I think the mattress was older than me (i'm 25), only 2 pillows were provided for a double, but they were so thin it was like only having one.
Although i think the room had been cleaned it had not been thoroughly, in what looked like months! The toilet was stained, the shower was covered in mildew and mould and the tiles under the sink had dirty marks on them.
The windows were crap, and the view was onto the bins of the restaurant next door, which doesn't really matter if you have curtains that are big enough to cover the window....but they didn't. They also didn't keep any sound out.
The rooms did have locks but there was no secondary lock to lock them room the inside!
The TV was faulty, and when I checked the cables I learnt that the TV (And the kettle as I checked afterwards) hadn't been PAT tested since 2012!

Basically I could not wait to get out the next morning. I wish I had booked into the travellers hostel a little further down the road.

Room Tip: Do not bother with this hotel, go somewhere else!

How can you call this a hotel !! It is more of a rooming house. Everything dirty except for sheets and towels. Decrepit and dirty bathroom. Rooms hot and very noisy as they are above a nightclub, loud noise, people screaming 'til 4 a.m. .. you definitely need ear plugs. Only redeeming feature is it's location. Staff were friendly, but sorry it is still a thumbs down for me.

I've rated this hotel average because it was. That's not to say anything negative, only that as a property it wasn't exceptional EXCEPT that it's right in the heart of Oxford. Three minutes' walk from the Carfax Tower, 10 minutes' walk to the Pitt Rivers Museum, 10 minutes' walk from Christ Church College and Cathedral... right in the middle of the city. I think it's about eleven steps to High Street.
The property is old, and we almost didn't go in after opening the door into the hallway and getting a whiff of what can only be described as "Eau de Stinky Feet." We liked the location so we went upstairs to reception and were relieved. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the check in process quick. There are NO frills here. The room was small, well-used, and faced the street. It was, however clean, and tidy. The requested extra pillows were present, and everything we needed for one night in the heart of Oxford was there. It was convenient and affordable. We would stay there again, and recommend it to anyone who is conscious of cost while keeping in mind location location location.
MAJOR downside for us - no parking. £24/24 hours in the secured lot down the street. If you have no car, this won't be a problem.

Room Tip: The hotel is quiet but the street is not. We had a room that faced George Street, and if we had not...

Conveniently place for getting to the colleges & the centre of the city and getting away.... its right next to the Oxford Tube bus station. It's the second time I have stayed here, booked at the last minute both times. Room 22 is clean and tidy, but don't look too closely at the quilted cover. However all the other bedlinen and towels are really very clean. Shower was excellent and powerful, if small.

The problem with Room 22 is that it's at the back of the building right over the aircon of the club or restaurant below. It runs until after midnight at least - bring ear plugs or plug into iplayer. Wifi is free and works well.

It's not a place to hang around... just a place to sleep and get away early in the morning. Staff - early in the morning when I made my booking, and when I arrived in a rush(late for my event) were as helpful as I could be. No complaints there at all.

The front door is next to a bus stop, so there is usually someone hanging about there.
Its in the busy lively centre, but ultimately this is literally a bed for the night. Not a hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back of the building suffer from the noise of the A/C unit & the walls are thin...

This hotel is clean, reasonably priced and is right in the heart of the city. Within walking distance of a wide range of restaurants and shops, it's a brilliant location. The rooms are clean and well kept (we had room 35 with the refurbished bathroom) and the bathroom was lovely. I'd recommend ear plugs if you want some sleep as due to the location it can get quite noisy with all the bars and pubs on the street. Staff were friendly and helpful and even though our room wasn't ready we were able to check in and leave our bags which staff out into our room for our return later on. Hairdryer temperamental, take your own if you plan on using it. Not perfect but good for a short stay.
