“Out of the way pub but really worth a visit”
Reviewed 7 August 2013

Called at this pub by chance on the way to Cornbury Festival, had a really nice lunch and a pint. The chef produced freshly prepared food and I felt that a return visit for a supper would be on the cards soon.

“Little gem of a pub”
Reviewed 10 March 2013

Celebrated Mother's Day at this pub and despite being a small building was disappointed to see that it was not full. Young welcoming staff with a log fire to greet you but unfortunately where we were sitting at the far end of the pub it was a bit chilly even though there was a radiator and we ate with our coats on, but it was an exceptionally cold day. An excellent choice on the menu. Two in my party had the roast beef and the roast lamb and were actually asked how we wanted the meat cooked. The chef is to be commended. I have never experienced that before but it was delicious and the lamb was served with real mint sauce! Excellent presentation and knocks chain pub food into a cocked hat! Is definitely worth another.

“Lovely food”
Reviewed 28 October 2012

Well, this was quite a find. A quirky little old thatched pub. Log fire burning, menu written on chalk boards. Game pie, steaks, monkfish and a Sunday roast was devoured in our group. Starters of sardines, homemade soup and goats cheese, all fresh and nicely presented. £26 each 3 courses and drinks. Would Go back in a heartbeat. Avoid the chains and the ping food, get fresh home cooked food with flair a the horse and groom.

“In a small quaint pub in a sleepy Oxfordshire...”
Reviewed 17 July 2012 via mobile

In a small and quaint pub in a sleepy Oxfordshire village I have discovered what I believe to be the best burger in town. To many places try to add to much to the humble burger, seems now to either be about the frills that come with it or the generic poor ingredient standard pub burger. They forget it's about good quality meat cooked properly.
As the menu states all it's burgers are made on the property from 250g of minced steak beef. They are cooked how you want ( this on its own was a good start for me as so many places are not aloud anymore). Served plain or with the simple twist of cheese either cheddar, blue and of course bacon.
Nice soft toasted bun and served with chunky chips and homemade slaw.
For me this dish alone will have me returning here on a regular basis.
Only one slight problem they only serve the burgers as part of there lunch time menu. But if the burgers are anything to go by I'm sure the rest of the menu is equally as good.
