“Excellent Modern Hotel”
Reviewed 30 March 2014 via mobile

Just back from a second stay with the Remont and it was perfect. Rooms are fresh, clean and comfortable. The breakfast were very good as we're the staff. A modern vibrant hotel which I will use again!

We have been coming to Oxford regularly for the last few years and have stayed in a number of hotels, but the Remont is our favourite by a long way. It is about a mile north of the city centre at St Giles but buses are frequent and more importantly there is plenty of free parking.

The service is exceptional- on this occasion a large group of us were meeting here, arriving from different places and at different times. The staff went out of their way to meet our requirements, and even allowed us to check in early. They were helpful with sorting out taxis, when the ones we'd booked failed to turn up, ensured that we could sit together at breakfast ( pretty good, by the way) even though the breakfast room was busy, and remembered preferences from previous visit.

Although not very cheap, it is no more expensive than most of the North Oxford compeptition, and much cheaper than the city centre hotels.

Highly recommended!

I stayed here for 2 nights with a couple of friends in March.

Great little hotel, really easy to find - only 2 miles away from the City Centre and there was a bus stop opposite that gets you in to town in 5 mintues so perfect location. It's also only about 20 minutes away from Bicester Village in the car.

The room itself was very clean, tidy and well presented. Staff were all very plesant and really couldn't do enough for you.

Breakfast was fantastic, lots of choice and very tasty.

Would definately stay here again if I were to go back to Oxford.

We stayed here twice in March, and both times could not fault this Hotel - it's lovely

The rooms are immaculate and very recently renovated, and also had the benefit of free wifi.

The breakfast was very good indeed, with a very wide range of hot and cold options, in a bright and modern Breakfast Room.

Every member of staff we spoke to was welcoming and friendly.

The Hotel is about 45 minutes walk from the centre of Oxford (£8 in a Taxi, and it is also on a bus route with buses every few minutes). We walked into Oxford when we stayed, but you can also eat and drink in Summertown, which is about 10 minutes away.

I stayed here in business in January 2014. I choice this hotel after reading reviews from tripadvisor and this hotel really is nice. The room is clean and well maintained. Service was good, breakfast was very good English breakfast, cosy and comfortable bed and quiet room to sleep. Wifi worked well and reasonable good connection to the city center by bus. Value for the money was excellent. By this far, this has been my best hotel experience in Oxford. I certainly would recommend this.

Oxford is definitely not a cheap place to visit or stay at, but we were very happy with this hotel. We were expecting to be somewhere slightly more exotic for my wife's 21st birthday (again) but had to stay in the UK for family reasons. So we went to Oxford and I tried to pretend that I was in Rome or somewhere like that. The rather rainy March weather spoiled my dreams. Try to go when it's sunny!

On to the hotel:
They are all ladies. We never felt pressurised or ignored; they asked if we wanted more food / drink (self-service, good choice, average sausages, decent coffee, pretty good everything else) before clearing away the breakfast bars every day. (Yes, we were nearly always last as breakfast ends at 10am weekends and an atrocious 9.30am, I think, maybe even 9am, Monday to Friday.)

The staff very quickly and happily brought an ice bucket and champagne flutes for us on request (every night! It was a birthday!). So don't forget to bring your own wine and craft ales with you.

We paid more for a bigger room (with sofa) as we knew we'd be having 2 visitors once or twice, so thought this worthwhile. We had a reasonably large quiet ground floor room with bay window, Room 24 or 25, at the back, views onto the garden. Front rooms may be noisier, onto the busy-ish main road, but don't quote me on that. They may be reasonably quiet.

But keep your net curtains closed when necessary, as guests walk past your room on the way back to their rooms after breakfast. But if you have clothes on, you'll be fine!

Oxford parking is very expensive (£22 a day at weekends?). Taxis were £10 one way (£11 in the rush hour as it took longer) from the hotel - they will order one for you - and with 4 of us travelling together, worth it. One bus ride is £2, I was told. (So 4 people would pay £16 return; and even 2 people would of course pay £8.) So factor that into your holiday costs.

(Some hotels have free parking nearer the centre - but look at the cost of them!)

The hotel's about 2 miles out of Oxford, in a straight line. The Summerhill area is a few hundred metres (10-minute stroll) away - turn right out of the hotel - and has Indian, Chinese, British and Italian restaurants (and probably Turkish, Lebanese or whatever, too). Plus loads of coffee bars and pubs, and shoe shops, and lady clothes shops.

Hotel parking is front left / front right / and side back. Plenty of spaces.

Hotel ambience is as website: 2 massive private houses joined together by a brick extension and very modern in feel. Think mid-grey and white with arty reception curtains, art on the bedroom walls etc. Small, but spacious-feeling, sitting area near reception seats about 4; otherwise, much more seating is in the breakfast area. But you'd be staring at empty tables.

(Saturday breakfast times may be crowded, with a wait in the seating area for a short while.)

This is not really a hotel, so there'll just be one person on Reception (ring the bell) and other people working in the background. Cleanliness is 100% - even outside gets the leaves swept away every day and the garden is well manicured - will be even better when in leaf / flower.

So, all in all, we liked it and would go back. Some rooms may be smal, but all of equal standard - in a bigger hotel, I'd worry some rooms may be good; and some a bit rough. I couldn't risk that for a birthday treat.

I'll add some pix if I get time.

Room Tip: Back rooms should be quieter. Higher rooms mean no-one could look in on you. One of the 'de luxe...

Stayed one evening. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good with traditional English and continental breakfast. Staff was very pleasant at the desk and at breakfast. The hotel is on a main road and a bus line goes right by it. The location is good if you want to be away from the city center. We had a room at the back of the hotel and it was quiet even though the hotel is on a somewhat busy street.
