“CONSISTANT IMPROVEMENT OVER THE YEARS”
Reviewed 20 December 2011

As an Oxford couple who have now retired to Spain, we come and visit friends and relations on a regular basis. On our last visit we had a meal at P V with a couple of close friends. When we lived in Oxford we would go to P V about once a year and always found the food and service good but not great. On our return after 4 years away we were pleasantly surprised how the restaurant had improved since our last visit. The menu was full of French classics at very reasonable prices, also wines on offer were great value for money. All four of enjoyed our food immensely a special mention to the excellent fresh Moules. P V will be top of the list on our next visit.

“over rated, over crowded and lacking in any charm”
Reviewed 18 December 2011

This is not a French restuarant - it is an English restaurant pretending to be French which is puzzling a there are some French staff. The decor lack any charn, the acoustics are harsh so conversation is a battle with other tables, the space is crammed with too many tables and it was very clear that we were time limited. We had very little wine but it was acceptable, not memorable. One main course was vegetarian and was dull in the extreme. A rocket & parmesan salad was uninspiring - but waht can you do with 3 ingredients - rocket (cheap & easy to grow, stores for a long time so no justification for its price tag) parmesan and a dressing that seemed to come out of a commercial catering pack. Chicken main course nice enough but lackign the finesse tio the sauce which we expect in a Franch chef. And the chocolate chees cake was definitely for the UK / US market - would never appear in a privately run French establishment. WE will not be back!

“Well cooked, good quality food in pleasant surroundings”
Reviewed 15 December 2011

I visited this restaurant for lunch. The staff were welcoming and very pleasant.

We all chose the menu of the day, two courses for £8.90. The salmon mousse starter was delicious as was the duck terrine. The portions were ample. Mains - seafood pancake, super quality, confit of duck also very good. I would recommend the house wine too.

We concluded with good coffee, feeling very satisfied with the Pierre Victoire - do go!

“Good cooking, great value”
Reviewed 15 December 2011

This restaurant has got it right. Plain wooden tables, not crammed too close, efficient service, modern, tasty French food and menus which offer tremendous value. Plus that rarity at french restaurant, a menu which offers a good choice for vegetarians. We'll be back.

“Excellent staff and good food”
Reviewed 13 December 2011

Celebrating a colleague's promotion at the last minute, the staff managed to fit us in quickly and quietly, were very attentive and kind, and served us quickly. We weren't rushed, although the restaurant was busy, and the food (especially dessert!) was excellent. Our table was in a corner, but never ignored, and water and wine was served as soon as we ordered. Thanks!
