“good food, reasonably priced”
Reviewed 29 August 2014

We first came across this great restaurant 15 years ago as financially struggling travellers who had been pillaged by high London prices and some very ordinary food experiences. Pierre Victoire seemed like heaven when we came across it. Well, things havent changed at Pierre Victoire in Oxford as we recently found to our great delight. The food is not only good but is reasonably priced, which probably explains why the restaurant is very busy. Particularly at lunchtimes for the specials I suspect. Sure, there is better haute cuisine at up-market french restaurants but we could not fault the food or the services. The portions werent overly large but tasted great. We took a two course special and enjoyed great desserts.
The restaurant is located in lilttle Clarendon street, just off St Giles and a little removed from the main tourist beat but still within close walking distance.
Very happy with this place.

“Almost perfect”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

The ambience, the service and the main courses were fantastic and represented excellent value for money. The menu was diverse and everyone's food looked delicious. However, the pudding took ages to arrive and when it did so, was disappointing and tasted surprisingly bland. One request, please open your windows a little - the whole place was really hot and stuffy and the air was stale - because it was full to the gunnels with happy eaters of course!

“Great for a spot of lunch near central Oxford”
Reviewed 27 August 2014

Having previously visited Pierre Victoire for a business lunch, I couldn't wait to take my wife. This is a very genuine French café down a small street near many of Oxford's cultural attractions. Indeed it's a short walk from the Ashmolean museum, and the two pubs frequented by Tolkein and Lewis's "Inklings", the Eagle and Child, and Lamb and Flag.

Lunch is beautifully presented and tremendous value for money - we paid bout £12 each for two courses. Portions are appropriate for lunch, i.e. not too big, so go for three courses and a side order of bread if you're particularly hungry! Food is freshly prepared and wonderful. Indeed the "Crepe du jour" was chocolate and banana, my personal favourite, and I've not had a better one anywhere in the world. My wife tried the house white wine and it too was excellent.

In total our wonderful, relaxed lunch of two courses, sides, drinks, tea and coffee came to about £30, which considering the location and quality was excellent value for money.

My one tip would be to ask for a table downstairs, which has a slightly more pleasant ambience - upstairs is a little small and perhaps too quiet for some.

“Delightful French restaurant, execellent food, atmosphere and service”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Firstly I recommend booking and secondly this place is well worth dinning at when in Oxford, with 3 course for £24, total bargain. We order mussels, salmon and snails for entree, all being lovely. The duck and the whole sea bass were divine and we were so full by the time dessert was set on the table, but of course still managed to eat it. I would recommend this restaurant for all occasions.
