We booked a night here based on previous reviews and because we were visiting Bicester Retail Village. This hotel is approx 15 mins away. Woodstock itself is a pretty little town and the hotel looks nice in its setting. The staff were all excellent, very accommodating helpful and attentive. The rooms are up some very narrow and steep stairs and the first impression is good. However, the bed was supposed to be a king size but was more like a standard double. The mattress was very soft and the level of heat in the room was overpowering, even though we turned the radiators off. This led to us both having a very disturbed and not very restful night's sleep. There was noise from the street below our window from people congregating outside the pub to smoke. This went on until midnight and unfortunately did become irritating. If we had wanted to sleep before midnight it would have been difficult. The shower curtain was stained and the fitting was hanging off the wall - simple enough things to fix but if left create a bad impression. The menu was varied and appealing, we chose the roast dinner but it was re-heated and did not taste fresh. Perhaps just a bad choice? Overall, our stay was disappointing and I think a 3* rating would be more appropriate.

Was eating in the bar/restaurant. Nice and cosy with the fire roaring. I had the home made burger which was served with home made tomato chutney and on a very nice wooden board and the chips in a little bucket!!. My friends and myself often eat here when in Woodstock and it has never disappointed us so far.

We stayed in Room 2 of the Star Inn on a Saturday night, prior to visiting the nearby Blenheim Palace. We received a friendly greeting on arrival, with our bags carried up to our room on the first floor. The view from our room looked out onto the main street of Woodstock, a lively Cotswold village.

The room was beautifully furnished, with a lovely bouncy double bed and a shower in the ensuite bathroom.

We ate in the pub - bookings recommended for a busy Saturday evening! - and it was delicious. Of particular note was the braised ox cheeks with crispy pancetta on a bed of mash. Mouthwateringly tasty.

Breakfast was again delicious, with a well-presented full English on offer.

We would return here without hesitation.

The Service was so bad even the Barman Jamie told us we'd be better off eating elsewhere. On the plus side when we finally got some food it was nice, but don't expect to be offered the chance to order drinks and pudding is out of the question.
