We popped into the Star whilst trying to find some space for a large group to eat on a Saturday. They managed to squeeze us in, although it was a bit tight! Still when you have eight adults and three children and you haven't booked, it's hard to complain. We didn't know the area.

Food was very good - nicely cooked with some good portions. Children's food looked very well done as well - cut above the normal junk children so often get.

Service was a little slow - perhaps it was because it was busy. But it was no major trauma.

Visited the star on a Wednesday evening with friends for dinner. There were 5 of us and we had booked. Our table was booked for 8.45pm and on arrival the first thing said was 'the kitchen closes at 9 so you'll need to get your order in quickly' not the friendliest of welcomes especially as we were told it was fine to book a table for this time. We ordered a range of things between us, all very nice. One particular waiter was more friendly than the others, and although service was good, friendliness could be improved. All in all, good food for a reasonable price. Would return

My wife and I called in this pub at lunch time on a Sunday. The tables were 99 per cent reserved and we only got a coffee as a special gesture. The pub is well located on the main square (Market Square) in the town, but the service could be friendlier - the first rule of any organisation in the hospitality business. Also, to us, the prices market up on the boards seemed to be rather high.

We stayed at the star for one night during a trip to Woodstock. At first glance I was unsure whether we had made the right choice as the pub was very busy and I was concerned re noise. We were shown to our room where I was pleased to note that much of the noise had disappeared. The stairs to the rooms are very narrow and steep. This was fine for us but could be a challenge for the elderly. We stayed in the king room which was very spacious with a lovely en-suite. The tv channels were limited as there appeared to be a problem with reception. the room was warm and comfortable but you could hear noise from the room next door. Our room overlooked the main village square and had lots of natural light. We ate in the pub during the evening and the food was excellent. There was a lovely ambience about the place and the log burner made it all the more cosy. All of the staff we met were pleasant and friendly. We had a great sleep and an equally good breakfast the next morning. All in all a pleasant stay. I would stay here again if I was in the area, but would like to explore what other hotels and pubs have to offer before rushing back.

Popped in for saturday lunch - waited 20 minutes sitting at the bar and was ignored - didn't get a drink - got up and left. Yes it was busy but its easy to acknowledge a customer exists - make eye contact at least but the 3 staff behind the bar failed to even do that. Cant review other than that because that was the sum of our experience. Certainly wont be back.
