Lovely hotel! The rooms were of a very high standard with very comfortable beds including nice soft pillows. The staff couldn't have done enough for us. Location was excellent for Blenheim Palace!! With regards to the food, there was good choice on the menu with a great choice of drinks to suit everyone. Would definately come here again!!

Excellent base for a visit to Blenheim Palace, Oxford and Cotswolds. Excellent accomodation, Well furnished spotless clean rooms with all amenities and friendly and efficient staff in this lovely pub in the centre of Woodstock Log fires and comfortable seating and very much a local. Breakfast was plentiful, freshly cooked with varied choice to suit all. Stairs to rooms could be a little tricky for older people but help was offered.

Able to park the car and walk to Blenheim, or catch the bus into Oxford.

Would like more choice to eat in and prices a lot higher than would like to pay but so was the price in most of the establishments locally.

Would definitely stay again, as we had excellent deal.

During our stay local parking restrictions had been suspended, but if this is lifted then parking could be a problem.

Had an overnight stay here and was very impressed by the quality of accomodation. Great pub atmosphere, restaurant was of a good standard..... Food portions were huge, but good quality. Room we stayed in was beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was locally sourced, sufficient choice and quantity..... But could have done with being a little warmer. Couldn't fault the service and all staff were very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The stairs up to the first floor would be very difficult for anyone with mobility difficulties or a...

The Star had a very nice makeover a few years ago - outcome:
Great new look and atmosphere
Ales (Back then and now): well kept - although cheaper drinking in London!
Food (back then) : Great posh pub food with high prices to match.
Food (now): Tourist food quality - BUT with the same high prices - better alternatives in Woodstock - Do not waste your money!
I am a local of ca 20 years!

We popped into the Star whilst trying to find some space for a large group to eat on a Saturday. They managed to squeeze us in, although it was a bit tight! Still when you have eight adults and three children and you haven't booked, it's hard to complain. We didn't know the area.

Food was very good - nicely cooked with some good portions. Children's food looked very well done as well - cut above the normal junk children so often get.

Service was a little slow - perhaps it was because it was busy. But it was no major trauma.

Visited the star on a Wednesday evening with friends for dinner. There were 5 of us and we had booked. Our table was booked for 8.45pm and on arrival the first thing said was 'the kitchen closes at 9 so you'll need to get your order in quickly' not the friendliest of welcomes especially as we were told it was fine to book a table for this time. We ordered a range of things between us, all very nice. One particular waiter was more friendly than the others, and although service was good, friendliness could be improved. All in all, good food for a reasonable price. Would return

My wife and I called in this pub at lunch time on a Sunday. The tables were 99 per cent reserved and we only got a coffee as a special gesture. The pub is well located on the main square (Market Square) in the town, but the service could be friendlier - the first rule of any organisation in the hospitality business. Also, to us, the prices market up on the boards seemed to be rather high.
