“Lovely cosy hotel”
Reviewed 26 February 2014 via mobile

Stopped over in Woodstock to break my journey. I made a last minute reservation on booking.com and got a very low rate. They called to advise that the kitchen was closed so they would only be serving continental breakfast( this accounted for the low rate). The hotel is well furnished and ver quaint, check in was efficient and the receptionist was very pleasant and helpful. My room was on the top floor which could be a hike for the unfit or infirm. The room was lovely, very cosy and peaceful. I had a wonderful sleep and would recommend this place as a romantic, weekend retreat. I didn't get the opportunity to dine but there are plenty of options in Woodstock to suit anyone's palate. I will return!

We enjoyed a wonderful stay with four friends. The tasting menu was exquisite - every course a taste sensation; the ambiance of the hotel was elegant, yet warm and inviting; the gin tasting was fascinating and the service impeccable. We would recommend The Feathers to anyone.

Room Tip: Book early enough to secure one of the main rooms. We left it a bit late and had to stay in the Woo...

The hotel was clean & very comfortable. The rooms well appointed & the staff were very attentive. We travelled with a group of friends & the hotel set a special dining area for us for both dinner and breakfast. The dining experience was superb & breakfast was excellent. We will be back again!!

We stayed here just for one night and enjoyed our stay. Our room was right at the top of the building, about 3-4 floors up, so it was quite a hike to get up there. When the youngish receptionist showed us to the room upon our arrival, when I asked her a question she couldn't speak for about 30 seconds as she was so out of breath. Thankfully we are quite a bit fitter than her so this wasn't an issue for us. Be warned, though, the top room are a long way up, and there is no lift.

The room was very stylish and had everything we needed. It was lovely and peaceful.

Prior to dinner we availed ourselves of there gin bar, which is excellent. They have a huge array of gins and if you are staying should not be missed.

We purchased a deal for a one night stay at the Feathers at quite a beneficial rate. When we arrived at the hotel we discovered that we had been upgraded to Suite 4 which was a very pleasant surprise. The check in was very efficient and we were relaxing in our room within minutes.
This room is large with its own lounge area, a dining table, a separate cloakroom from the bathroom and a bedroom which you can close off from the rest of the suite if required. The bed was very comfortable although we did find it quite hot in the room. (read further on for one explanation as to why that may be!)
We were already aware from reading other comments on TripAdvisor that the rooms have no tea or coffee facilities but a quick ring downstairs had some excellent tea sent up within minutes.
Part of our deal included the 5 course tasting menu but before that we indulged in a few gins in the bar. There are so many varieties that I suggest you place yourself in the hands of the barman and take their preference. This lead to a vanilla gin followed by a saffron gin which were just perfect as a sharpener before dinner. Just watch that they serve 35cl measures from memory - which is a shade hazy.
The portions at dinner do not look huge but do not be fooled, you will find them carefully judged so you do not feel hard done by. We also took the sommelier's choice of wines where you pay c £21.00 per head and they bring you a carefully selected, different glass of wine to match each course including a suitable gin to go with the sticky toffee pudding. (I know you normally would not drink gin at the end of a meal but go with it, you will not be disappointed). The truffle risotto was superb and the chicken dish we had as our main course was cooked perfectly.
It is only a short stagger upstairs where you can then collapse until it is time to get breakfast. We had that delivered to the room which as we had our own dining table was very civilised.
We had one minor glitch in that the hot water seemed to have failed in the morning but this seemed to be due to a cutout switch tripping. We waited half an hour and everything was fine which just meant we checked out later than planned.
I would recommend this for a weekend away particularly out of season as I suspect Woodstock in the summer is rather over-run because of Blenheim Palace. Be aware that this hotel does not have its own parking and the street parking outside is time limited (2 or 3 hours). In February it did not seem that was strictly enforced but at other times of the year you would need to be careful

Room Tip: Stairs can be steep and narrow - try and check what room they plan giving you if you have any diffic...

We arrived to a friendly welcome from the receptionist who showed us our feature room. It was very nice with large comfy bed and a lovely bathroom with both shower and free-standing bath. Pre-dinner drinks consisted of the best g&ts we have ever had, the selection advised by the knowledgable bar man. Dinner was very good, particularly recommend the thrice cooked chips, and the service pleasant. It was lovely having a proper pot of morning tea brought to the room before breakfast. Breakfast itself was good - delicious eggs Benedict, though I would have liked more fruit and some yoghurt. Only feedback would be that it seemed to be a bit short staffed in the evening with the bar man and receptionist multi-tasking which meant although they were polite and charming, service seemed slightly directionless, and you weren't sure who was in charge. However this did not detract from a lovely stay.

Just got back from a stay here. On arrival we were given an upgrade which was great. The staff could not do more for us, everyone was very friendly and professional. The young man in the gin bar and the reception staff were particularly helpful and went above and beyond in their customer service. Looking forward to staying again soon!
