“Fantastic find”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We stayed at this Hotel to attend a wedding at Blenheim and what a find, it was within walking distance. We were greeted by a lovely lady who made us feel very welcome, the room was outside in the courtyard so lovely and private. It was exceptionally clean and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel is an old coaching Inn and it had a lovely charm about it and very well decorated throughout. The breakfast was cooked to order and had the most amazing poached eggs, the staff in the dining room were very pleasant and helpful as were all the staff members we met during our stay including the owners. We had a wonderful time and would be making arrangements to visit again in the near future. We actually stayed another night it was so good. Many thanks to all concerned.

Room Tip: The room was in the courtyard No 12 which is private from the other upstairs room, its a must for ne...

The Marlborough Arms was an absolute delight. The accommodation was both luxurious and full of character. It's location was perfect to explore Woodstock and Blenheim Palace, walking distance to both. The hospitality was warm and friendly and we received some useful recommendations for places to eat and drink.During the weekend i proposed to my girlfriend and the following morning at breakfast we were presented with a bottle of champagne from the owners.Such a lovely gesture which made our weekend even more special. We will definitely return in the not too distant future.

We were looking for a nice place to stay with good access to Oxford. As usual we read all the reviews and decided to book two nights as it seemed a bit pricey. We were checked in by the gentleman who was very charming and helpful, he didn't introduce himself but I gather from other reviews that he is called Alistair. We had room 2 which was lovely. A huge bed with deep mattress, very spacious room nicely decorated and a modern ensuite with an enormous shower. The car park was convenient at the rear with access through a very nice patio area into the Inn itself. We ate out at the Brotherton Brasserie the first night; very good Italian food, which Alistair recommended and we had complimentary Prosecco drinks. Breakfast was great, plenty of choice, nicely cooked and lots of it. We left the car in the car park and got on the bus just outside for a day in Oxford. That night we ate out at the King's Head, again very good food and good service. We could not fault anything about the Marlborough Arms; it is full of character and style, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was good and plentiful, the room was excellant and the bed soooo comfy. We will definitely go there again.

Room Tip: We were at the front but the secondary double glazing meant we didn't hear the traffic at all.

We found this place to be quite a surprise. The exterior of the building was not at all out of the ordinary for the area but the rooms were a total delight. Each room was tastefully decorated with its own character. All the furnishings and linens were new and top quality. The owners were approachable and helpful. The breakfast was far more than we would ever need and the setting was superb.

I've stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions, with family & on my own. Woodstock is an amazing place in it's own right & this hotel is obviously perfect for visiting Blenheim Palace. There is good parking, the bedrooms are nicely decorated, the breakfast room is pleasant & breakfast is always good. Security is good & the hotel has a very homely feel. If you go out for the evening, order a drink for your room for when you get back.
I'd always book this hotel if there are 'offers' on or if I wanted to go to Blenheim.
There are some good restaurants in Woodstock to eat; The Feathers (which also has the largest collection of different gins in the world I believe) this is expensive but good. The King's Arms - reasonably priced & tasty fare. Jaan, a great Indian restaurant & The King's Head - lovely meals. The Chef Imperial - a great Chinese - take away & restaurant.

I have visited Oxford several times this year and I'm delighted to have discovered the Marlborough Arms in Woodstock ( about 15 minutes from the city ) where I've enjoyed the warm welcome of Sally and Alistair, owners and hosts , who have taken great pride in ensuring every detail within this traditional Coaching Inn has been attended to.

Having looked at some of the reviews I strongly recommend you take note of the most recent which reflect how the Marlborough Arms performs today following extensive refurbishment . Anything relating to visits years ago is, I suggest, less relevant.

So, as a regular business and social traveller throughout the UK I reckon I'm sufficiently qualified to review the Marlborough Arms and here's what I have found;

As you enter - tasteful and charming decor with a smile to greet you and lots of essential local knowledge and advice from the team to help you discover Blenheim Palace, the surrounds and the various local hostelries to relax in the evening.

Bedrooms - They're a generous size, I've stayed in several and each has been faultless. The beds are big, the quilts are fresh and warm and the pillows are just perfect. I've never struggled to get off to sleep . . . Oh and there's a flat screen tv in each as well.

Bathrooms /Shower rooms - they vary from room to room . . . from a generous step in shower to a wonderful ball and claw bath - all are immaculately clean. Towels freshly laundered and everything you would need to make your stay relaxing.

Breakfast - A traditional breakfast is served with a 'help yourself' service for cereals, fruit juices, fresh fruit etc.in bright and airy surroundings with happy and friendly staff. It's usually too much for me . . .

Overall the Marlborough Arms scores highly with me, it's traditional, historical and I can relax there. It's an all-round jolly nice place to stay. So whether you are visiting Oxford ( it's only 15 mins away and great to escape the city for the night ) or visiting Woodstock . . . you simply must stay here.

Room Tip: All rooms are well appointed, generous and comfortable. If you're pushing the boat out go for ro...

Following a mix-up in bookings in another hotel in Woodstock, Alistair (owner) kindly offered a room at the Marlborough Arms.

The Marlborough Arms is a good central place to stay in Woodstock, nicely furnished and very hospitable
