Crowne Plaza Hotel Reading

Stayed in the Crowne Plaza, Reading on Thursday 5th March, was very pleased with the hotel. We requested a river view and were lucky to have one. Managed to get a balcony too which would be lovely in the summer sitting with a coffee and looking over the Thames.

Huge double-double beds with giant duvets, nice comfy chairs too, bathroom clean and comfortable.

Breakfast was lovely, choice of full english or continental with the standard cereal or fruit options also.

Didn't get chance to use the restaurant in the evening or the spa but both look lovely.

Hotel really close to centre of Reading and has good secure parking also.

Stayed here for 3 nights from 19th Feb and had a very enjoyable stay. Security is very good (don't worry, the area is safe!) and entry to the car park even for pedestrians is restricted. You need your keycard to use the lifts so they have that covered as well. The room was either in a very quiet part of the hotel or they are well soundproofed. I heard no noise from other guests or the cleaning staff. In fact the only noise we heard was from the geese on the river!
The bar is a little expensive but there are lots of pleasant pubs within easy walking distance. The Moderation just across the road and The Griffin on the other side of the bridge are very friendly pubs and both serve food if you dont fancy eating in the hotel. Reading town centre is nothing special and best avoided completely on the days the football team is playing at home. Area to the north of town has some beautiful countryside and of course with the hotel being on the Thames you can walk miles in either direction on the riverside path. A lot of cyclists use that path and rejoin the road or more usually the pavement directly in front of the hotel. It is worth looking both ways before you step out because a few of the cyclists do not seem to be in the mood to take prisoners. I do not know if there have been any injuries caused there but I imagine its only a matter of time. Remember what I said and look both ways!
Check in and out was very smooth and all staff members we came into contact with were both friendly and professional.

This is the third time of staying in this hotel the first time was five years ago when it was the holiday inn.We found the staff friendly and the decor smart.the leisure facilities were nice but found the pool cold.Breakfast choice was lovely, fresh and good choice. We had a room away from funtcions suites due to possible noise so were at the roundabout side of hotel.Good security as no one can get upstairs without a room key.Yes we would go back as its position is only a 10 min walk into town and right next to a tony carvery and the riverside.

Stayed at the Crowne Plaza, Reading, overnight, for 1 night, between Christmas and New Year to visit family. Check in was smooth and parking couldn't have been better. Our room was spotlessly clean, and spacious. Very comfy bed and nice and warm given the freezing weather outside. Bathroom was small but perfectly adequate with plenty of towels and complimentary toiletries. We very much enjoyed the breakfast, so much, that we wished we had sampled dinner there the night before instead of going out. We had a very good deal and wished we had booked for two nights! Will definitely go back and make sure we have dinner and a swim - not necessarily in that order!

3 night stay for work at the Crowne Plaza Reading last week.

The check-In was quick and easy, the receptionist quite pleasant and gave a brief run down on what was available at the hotel. I was also given un upgrade to the next available room.

The room was fairly large and stylish, came with bathrobe, safe, tea and coffee and an array of toiletries in the bathroom. The TV was a flat screen affair with 7 channels

Ordered room service on several occaisions, on the phone each time I was told the food would take half an hour but always arrived in much less time. The food was not of good standard, very poor quality and not much of it, but the staff were very friendly.

Breakfast was a buffet, and the food above average and again the staff were attentive and friendly apart from the last day when one of the waiters got the ordering completely wrong with most of the guests

Overall above average but the room service food a real let down

Arrived at 3.30pm the booking in was excellent we had travelled nearly 200 miles and was allocated a room on first floor. We had arranged to meet my husband son in the restaurant for a meal, the starters arrived - soup only lukewarm - but it was the main course listed as minced steak topped with onion relish, smoked bacon and cheese served with goose fat chips @ £12.50 each what came was a beef burger with bun and chips (if I had wanted this could have gone to a MacDonalds). We went back to our room at approx 10.30 only to find out that there was a function on and the noise was disgusting as we were directly over the function room. Telephoned Reception who said 'were you not informed of the function when you booked in' NO. We were then allocated another room, which seemed OK until 2pm when next door came in and were very noisy for about an hour. We promptly booked out at 8am the following morning as enough is enough

My wife, myself and little boy stayed here on Sunday and Monday on October. We arrived at about 3-30pm on the Sunday and the room was not ready. We were asked to wait in the bar until the room was ready. The drinks are very expensive and we were not offered one of the nibble trays the bar steward was preparing.
The view from the room was good as we could see the Thames
but with the bed settee set up you couldn't get near the window.
On the Monday we tried to book for the Tuesday night but the rate jumped to £169 from £145. The response when we asked why was "this is a business hotel so we can charge this". The Duty Manager apparently had no authority to let us have the room for less than £169. We then went for breakfast at 9-00am and were told we could not sit at a table near the river as these were booked for a business meeting from 10-00am. We were the only people on the resturant at the time.
The breakfast in a buffet type where you help yourself but you need to order a fried egg which I ordered. When my family had finished their breakfast the fried egg still hadn't come so I resorted to the watery scrambled egg I could have had 30 minutes earlier. Maybe the fried eggs are reserved only for business people along with olives at the bar and the decent tables. I was pleased in the end that we didn't stay the 3rd night. The Premier Inn is a stones-throw away. The room was bigger, the breakfast was better and the staff far more helpful. Oh and it is half the price! If you want a swim go in the leisure centre next door.
