My company had their Christmas do at the Penta Hotel Reading, what a fantastic evening. We had our own function room with bar, the decor was fantastic. The staff were excellent and service was very prompt.

I stayed overnight and my room was fresh and funky, if a little warm. It was clean and has loads of TV channels. The toiletries were great and the rainforest shower was lovely (didn't like the mirror opposite the shower though:-). Breakfast was very orderly with lovely food (although the sausage was a little tough).

All in all great value for money, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and hope to have more functions there too.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room.

This hotel was clean, tidy, great value, but it's greatest asset is the efficient, polite and helpful staff. We had a problem booking in, but they remained calm and resolved very well, making us feel at ease during the process.
Breakfast is excellent and if you can get it included in a deal you will not be disappointed. While the dinner menu is not extensive (though it may be restricted because it's festive period), the quality was very good, and service good too.

Beds very big and very comfortable. Good quality toiletries.

Only down side is car park, it's a public one, but only about 200 yards away, and the hotel give you a ticket to restrict cost.

Room Tip: Not sure it makes much difference where you are.

I had stayed here in the past before it was refurbished by the current owner. It was awful. Now it is funky and fresh with bright interiors and some nice touches - Good in room space, free wifi, free 'pay' movies.

Good public spaces - more edgy than a Malmaison - but a similar quality.

Overall a real surprise with great, large, comfortable beds and a nice quiet, spacious room. Superior rooms are also available.

We stayed at the Penta hotel as we had been to Twickenham to watch the Rugby and didn't want to stay in London. We were simply using the hotel as a bed for the night, and for this the hotel fitted the bill. It's not a hotel I would normally choose as it is very modern with a trendy edge, but, I was overall impressed.
Clean quirky rooms, good sized bathrooms and fabulous toiletries. The only downside to this hotel is the parking. The hotel does not have parking onsite, so you're forced to use the nearby public car park which isn't ideal, but it wouldn't put me off staying there again.

The standard of this hotel has gone down since it has changed hands 4 times . last week about 200 of us went there for christmas lunch. Our coats were piled up on tables outside the actual room. Not good for a so called 4 star hotel. The service was very slow and the turkey meal was cold. In all, the food was poor quality and not value for money. Would not go there again.

Centrally located hotel with nice staff. However, they were too rigid to their terms due to which we faced quite inconvineince. The staff needs training to understand culture, type & expectations of guests.

I had to go to Reading for a conference. The town itself is pretty depressing, definitely not a destination and I didn't get much more joy from the hotel. Yes the foyer has funky decor and staff are friendly but I was annoyed to discover there was no business centre. Furthermore, you had to pay for WiFi. Otherwise the hotel only offered complimentary WIFI for half an hour at a time, then it cut out, even if you were in the middle of something. You had to log back in every 30mins. Rooms were spartan and incredibly hot and stuffy. The hotel is on a motorway and unbearably noisy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the internal courtyard and not facing the main road.
