“Service Satisfaction”
Reviewed 21 November 2010

Hi,

My Name is Prasad Dendukuru. I have visitied UK on Business purpose and stayed in Holiday Inn Reading, South M4 Hotel for 3months from duration Sep04, 2010 to Nov15, 2010.

The facilities in Holiday Inn Reading, South are really appreciable. Customer service and providing the required things to the customers is really fantastic.

I suggest people who travel to Reading to stay in Holiday Inn and can gain the services.

Thanks
Prasad.

We arrived in the hotel around 5.30 ,the staff quickly welcomed us ,excpecially my little children were given lot of attention, they also received a goody bag which really pleased them reception staff was really warm in welcoming us.

Room was also nice clean and very spacious did not make us feel cramped at all ,we got great service by breakfast staff at the hotel ,breakfast food was really fresh and my children enjoyed it ,we also had dinner at the hotel staff was very helpful and suggested good menu ,although the children children menu lacked variety and portion sizes were also small, but overall experience was great and would definately return next year as my children loved it a lot .

I've stayed in this hotel several times this year - mainly because it's convenient for business and every time I think about going somewhere else they magically announce a Priority Club points deal which means I feel obliged to go back!

This is a business hotel - I certainly wouldn't fancy staying here on leisure break, unless it was a one-night stop over.

Drink and food are expensive for what you get. The quality isn't bad, but it's not great either. There isn't anywhere else to go closeby so they've got you over a barrel!

The service is a mixed bag. The reception staff are ALWAYS miserable! The evening dinner service is inconsistent - sometimes great, sometimes bad. The breakfast staff are excellent - they are always rushed off their feet but are efficient and polite.

The leasure facilities are ok, but not great. The pool is small, but perfectly adequate and the gym equipment is a bit rickety. I'm a gym-snob though so i'm probably being overly critical!

Another criticism is that they always try and get money out of you! Everytime you go to the bar they ask if you want to buy nuts/crisps, every time you order in the restaurant they offer you bread (chargeable). It gets really annoying!

I've had a enough of this place - the unpredictable service and quality just irritates me.

Awful. Long queue at reception. A staff member appeared from out back and quickly disapeared when seeing the length of the queue. This summed up the stay. Restaurant food obviously microwaved and when asking for a second glass of white wine was given something resembling Castrol GTX. No care and attention offered by any staff member. Rooms were cold and bathrooms covered in mould. This is the only HI that doesn't have a customer feedback card in the room...I wonder why. An utter disgrace to the Holiday Inn brand.

Check in 2pm, arrived 2.15 with 2 small kids after long journey, room not ready yet. How long will it be I ask, about an hour the surly and miserable receptionist says. No apology, simply more shuffling of a mouse and staring at a screen. I ask for the duty manager, who after a minute or two turns up and tells me sorry we've sorted it now!
Room was about a mile away from reception!!! Which actually, as the later tale will tell, was a good thing!

Room was great size, cot and bed for kids, decent sized family room. Fridge/cooler didn't work tho.

Food was ok, expensive for tea- kids eat free, but adults pay about 1 and a half the usual price as a result! Drinks were ridiculous- not far off £2 for a fruit shoot! Wine extorniate for an average glass. Oh and the waiter had a BO problem, which I'm afraid is not acceptable. Oh and they struggled to add bill to my room as miss surly and miserable on reception hadn't set my account up properly!! I was sent to speak to miss surly and miserable, who was, guess what- surly and miserable and offered no apology for her incompetence! Breakfast was fine, plenty to choose from, no complaints, nice staff who worked hard given there was nowhere near enough of them.

My main gripe was the pub attached 'OCallaghans' I think its called. Supposedly open for guests, unless a function on. On first night of stay it was open, but not busy so they shut it, and pushed everyone in to the much more expensive hotel bar, and there was more people than seats, which seemed stupid given the size of the bar that was empty.

Second night there was a function on, a wedding, a particular type of wedding- chavtastic!! which resulted in a mass brawl in the hotel foyer where the bride assaulted the groom, and most of the wedding party yelling "You f ing c..t" at everyone in sight. This then spread to basically what seemed like all of the wedding scrapping in the hotel with kids sat in there, elderly people, the lot. It was an absolute disgrace! At one point, from my vantage point in the inside I saw a bloke with a car jack running around with blood streaming from his head! I did notice there were some hotel guests outside trying to get in the hotel but they couldn't because the staff had managed to push this brawl out into the car park to protect the hotel guests I presume.
Police arrived and were combing the hotel and grounds looking for the lunatics who had scarpered, they were on corridors, and looking for wherever they were hiding, toilets were cordoned off and had police outside them as they were trying to stop contamination of evidence.

Not a great family friendly venue! Even at breakfast the guests (who had apparently been banned from the establishment according to same surly and miserable and non apologetic receptionist- no wonder, she'd been on reception for every waking hour of my stay!) were discussing the evenings events around tables of families on lego land deals saying 'I'm gonna kill the F........g c...............t ' etc etc
You could argue they can't control their guests, but it was clear that this lot were pondlife from the minute you set eyes on them and would be a disaster waiting to happen, you can tell that and turn the booking down- provided you aren't greedy.

In summary- never ever again!

We wished we had never left Longleat and Bath after arriving at the Holiday Inn South in Reading. The was the second part of our week long adventure with Legoland and London still to do. We should have turned back! We arrived at the Hotel after a hectic and rather wasted experience of Legoland Windsor - it appeared most of the UK had visited Legoland on that day. It was rammed. Back to the Hotel. We had arrived only to find our carefully booked adjoining rooms we not adjoining. With 2 chiidren in tow we were offered seperate rooms which we refused. Then the saga really got into gear. After an hour we were finally given adjoining rooms BUT when we arrived they were already occupied. We finally managed to get the rooms we booked after 90 minutes.

On arrival we booked the Restaraunt. When we arrived at the Restaraunt there was no booking for us and we had to wait. We foolishly decided to wait and eat in the "Child Friendly" Restaraunt. There was nothing child friendly about it. The "specially prepared" fish goujons were nothing but fish fingers (and not even good ones), the organic pizza looked like a findus frozen pizza and they had run out of all but the water on the table - they had no salad and no ice cream. So back to the Room and the adjoining rooms were locked and we could not get the keys to work and neither could the staff. 50 minutes later and the staff had to dismantle the room lock to get us in. We went to bed hungry.
The next day and breakfast was chaotic and again they had run out of most of the food - no eggs, no bread and no orange juice. Couldn't wait to leave. Anyway back home and a letter of complaint to the Holiday Inn - but they must have run out of paper because no reply yet.
