“Sauna”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2013

Stayed her on the 21/7, we had 3 top floor south facing rooms with no air conditioning and windows that only opened an inch, the temp in the room was 29.5c. It was like walking into a sauna, that smelt! Tried to get a move to their other property as travelling with a very elderly relative for a funeral, was told that we would lose money and would have to pay again BUT if we had a bad nights sleep could get a full refund! Eventually given 3 fans which moved hot air around. One of our party spent the night on wet towels in shower , I spent part of it outside in car park. The very unsympathetic and unhelpful night receptionist who when asked for jug of water said no drink tap water spent it in an air conditioned reception. The only saving grace and reason it didn't get all terrible was the breakfast and the waiter in the morning who could teach them all about customer service. Would not recommend this hotel as not only was it a horrific experience but the customer service was woefully lacking, try the Crown Plaza next door lovely view and air conditioning.

Stayed overnight prior to taking a boat 40 minutes up the Thames to Mapledurham House where we had a lovely cream tea, tour of the old mill, quick look around the big old house and beautiful grounds then back on the boat for another 40 minutes cruise back to Caversham Bridge. Hotel was perfect for leaving car, right next to Toby Inn where we had all meals and numerous drinks throughout our stay. Hotel was very clean, modern, comfortable bed, pillows, friendly staff - only problem was the temperature in our room which reached 27 degrees despite leaving the window open and having the fan on full blast made sleep impossible. Then the fire alarm went off shattering our nervous systems. According to the receptionist on checkout the kitchen had set it off accidently. She appeared genuinely concerned at our very uncomfortable night and implemented their guarantee policy without any hassle. Shame as otherwise it might have been an excellent hotel. They need to install aircon in bedrooms.

We stayed at this hotel while visiting family in late June. The room was standard Premier Inn quality with a comfortable bed, a clean and tidy room and good bathroom. We prepaid the room which cost only £35. Breakfast was of good quality and the staff were very efficient and courteous.

The only negative is that there was some noise from the street from a group of teenagers, but this didn't continue much into the night.

There was adequate parking and the hotel is in a very convenient location.

we stayed at this hotel as a family the room was very small for a family, the food was not very good and the staff were very unhelpful when asking for directions. we have stayed at many premier inn hotels in and around england and this was at a very low standard compared to the others.

A usual premier inn experience. Staff very good, hotel average -
BUT, I am noticing Premier inn prices are rising to the extent where it's worthwhile looking for a good centrally located hotel.
Maybe the average Premier inn user is paying for the £29 bargain rooms ?????

Our first time at a Premier Inn, so I was a bit sceptical, but the room was surprisingly large and well equipped.

It was all there: a good quality bed, clean linen, strong shower, spotlessly clean room, large car park and friendly staff; everything you want in a hotel. I imagine the 24 hour reception is very handy for business travel, and if they'd clean the windows more often, there'd be a lovely view of the meadow and river Thames.

However, at £85 a night plus £16.50 for two (optional) breakfast buffets, it's not cheap. In general, I find it better value to book small family run B&Bs and hotels when possible. After all, if you check Tripadvisor, there's no longer the risk of accidently picking a doss house.

It's the nicest chain hotel I've stayed in, but to me, their full-price rate doesn't offer value for money.
