“Very Impressed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

We only stayed for 1 night on 9th July but were very glad we chose this hotel. We arrived early at 11.30 am (check-in normally 2pm) hoping to gain access to 1 of the 3 rooms we booked just so we could get changed ready for my son's graduation ceremony. After having had coffee on the terrace in the garden we were told that all the rooms were ready for us and having seen that my mother had mobility problems they made a bedroom available on the ground floor without us even having to ask. The customer service by all the staff during our short stay was second to none and the cooked breakfast is definitely a 'must'.

Just visited this lovely quiet oasis in Reading. Lovely rooms and great breakfast. We sat in the sun in the garden during the afternoon - amazing for the middle of such a busy area. We have now stayed 3 times in different rooms and it has always been great.

If you are looking for a hotel that comes alive at night or has lots of 'added extras' then this is not the place for you. On the other hand if, like us, you just want a quiet and friendly place to stay then look no further! This is a lovely hotel, very traditional with friendly staff and nicely furnished rooms. We booked it as it is close to Reading centre, but just nicely far enough away from the hustle and bustle and therefore very quiet. We were attending Royal Ascot and the railway station is a ten minute taxi ride from the hotel, booked for us by the manager. Breakfast was very nice and served in a pleasant room and atmosphere. The staff serving were lovely and very efficient. All in all a very nice hotel without being 'extravagant'...probably the quietest we have ever stayed in! We will certainly book again next year!

Stayed here to be convenient for the train to Royal Ascot .
As this hotel is rated No 1 is Reading at the time of this review I was expecting more especially given the room rate of £105 per night .
Free car parking is a bonus , but you are not in the town centre . It is a good 20 min walk into town . The only nearby ammenety is a pub across the road which is helpful as the only meal served is the adequate , but not outstanding breakfast .
Staff are friendly and helpful .
There is no morning newspaper service and on enquiring where the nearest newsagent is , was directed to the nearest , a short car drive away . Not great to have to drive out before breakfast for the racing papers.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and has traditional ( some may say old fashioned ) decor and furnishings . Our room was spacious but again not remarkable .
The hotel also lacks a bar and i felt uncomfortable sitting alone in the lounge in the evening with an alcoholic drink, which i had brought myself, whilst i read my newspaper.
There was no need for a morning alarm call as the room above us , up stairs marked private , had occupants that started thumping around at 6.45am on both mornings we stayed.
Given the pros and cons of this hotel i cannot say it is great value but would have no reason to put anyone off staying here , but we came away generally underwhelmed

We were in a superior double, and this really was superior! The bed was huge and we had a separate bathroom and toilet; I have friends who have lived in smaller flats. It was a bit dark, but we did arrive quite late, and were just for one night, so it was not a problem. The shower was fantastic and bed comfortable. Everything clean. Free wifi.

Breakfast was fine, although nothing special: it is not this establishment's main selling point (vegetarian options just egg or beans on toast). However, the room it was served in was lovely.
Garden very nice, and good drinks vending machine if you want more than the instant coffee/tea provided in the room.

Lots of parking, and not that far away from the city centre. Very good staff service, and a nice garden too.

In short very good, and fairly priced, but I would be surprised if this is really the 'best' hotel in Reading.

My husband and I have stayed in this hotel three times now. It offers very comfortable accommodation with good decor throughout the hotel. The full english breakfast was very good and also the service. Tea, coffee and biscuits in the room and tv with a lot of sky channels. Friendly and helpful staff on hand. Lovely gardens to stroll around or sit. If you dont like a noisy place then is ideal.
